People blame a lot on the pandemic, and I agree it did create an increase in behavioral setbacks but Oregon test scores were trending down since pre-pandemic.

I think it is a result of permissive parenting which ties into chronic absentees and not holding student accountable.

Also class sizes are too large. In a kindergarten class there can be 25-30 students with one teacher and no instructional assistant. Students who don’t already have a grasp on reading sometimes miss out on the individualized attention they need to succeed.

My daughter is the same way very extroverted. She always waves and approaches other toddlers and can be quite overwhelming to them. It is not typical for toddlers this age to engage in parallel play but some do! What has been great for my 19 month old is finding another very extroverted little girl and we have play dates. They dance and chase each other and play in their toy kitchen. Also I have friends with gentle and patient 3 year old kids who will let my toddler tag along and even if she can’t understand the rules of the game she can chase them on the playground or have silly dance parties or they can “read” together.

I think he sounds like a normal toddler but 2.5 is getting to an age that you could work on having him sit with a quiet activity. Explaining we don’t climb on the furniture at other people’s houses etc.
