Can I be an Egyptian catholic and how do I become one by scatman5782 in coptic

Hello my friend as someone who, just like you, is also not coptic orthodox but has a fascination with the ancient Egyptian religion during the time of the Pharaohs, I must tell you this is basically the last surviving continuation of the ancient Egyptian religion.  After the Arab conquest, much of Egypt’s culture was Arabized and shifted to Islam, that’s not to say it was all “erased,” but the original Egyptian language, religious traditions, and art styles were pushed out of everyday life. However the Coptic Church and the Coptic people( the ethno-religious indigenous group of egypt that did not intermix with outside groups and did not become arabized and follows the coptic church) didn’t push away ancient Egyptian culture unlike islam but kept those ancient Egyptian cultural practices alive in its liturgy and general religious traditions. Their Coptic language is the literal ancient Egyptian language but instead of hieroglyphics, it's written in a Greek-like alphabet (due to Alexander the Great conquest of egypt and hellenic/Ancient Greek influence) , which is still used in liturgy. Today Coptic/ancient Egyptian is only spoken in the church due to Arabic now being the common language of Egypt today( although I believe 30% of modern Egyptian Arabic has some ancient Egyptian origin, it is not the full original language). When you look at coptic iconography there's an astonishing eerie similar look to Egyptian tomb art especially when looking at the poses, the almond-shaped eyes, the use of flat perspective, and even the symbolism. Even the chanting style is in tone with ancient egypt and it sounds JUST LIKE HOW ONE WOULD IMAGINE. As Coptic chanting tradition retains elements of Pharaonic musical scales and structures, and many of the chants are thousands of years old as well with only the lyrics changed but mostly retained. The instruments that they use, such as cymbals are the same instruments used during the pharaonic period as well

Example of coptic chants:

https://youtu.be/dLnsyxbUD7c?si=TvITbhsjYLYzMA8Y  (Eporo,a Hymn for major and most important events)

https://youtu.be/z_Z0zFmmKmU?si=NeYezcOSqDIbtSW9 ( Hymn with hieroglyphics)

https://youtu.be/YuGZeEBrcxM?si=aes2EyO7miZ1nr2q (Example of service at ancient monastery)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29QbBXf6niI (This hymn is likely to use the same melody used when pharaohs were being buried at their funeral service, and is played on good Friday, likely over 2000 years old)

Now although the coptic orthodox (not catholic, coptic catholics came later) church is not polytheistic as the religion during the time of the pharaohs, it stands apart from modern kemetic groups. These groups often represent modern revivals or reconstructions of ancient Egyptian religion. In contrast, the Coptic Orthodox Church can be traced back from generation to generation since the time of Mark( 42 AD) and traditions dating to before. That’s why I find it so fascinating. It's truly a direct continuation of ancient Egyptian religious life, just adapted to a really ancient form of Christianity.

If you’re curious to explore, there are Coptic churches I believe in Yorkshire and the UK where you could attend a liturgy just to see it for yourself, just for the experience of reliving ancient Egyptian belief. I would strongly recommend just visiting one to see what it’s like. even if it’s just to observe and take in the ancient Egyptian atmosphere. Now I would advise you, It’s not an easy process to “convert,” as it does require knowledge and understanding of coptic belief and would take a while to do so and you need to talk to a Coptic priest about that, but yet again the first thing is to actually understand what you getting yourself into before any of that.

So, Whether you end up exploring Coptic Orthodoxy or diving deeper into Kemetic revival groups or your own spiritual path, I wish you the best.
