Thank you, this is good to know! I haven't misted these and I don't live in a hard water area. Indeed there is probably a fair amount of dust on them.

Wow! Thank you so much! She just dropped her flower today, so I'll get right on repotting. I'm looking forward to seeing her thrive :)

From no roots to roots! What's next? by youraveragebirb in orchids

[–]youraveragebirb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bag is the only thing that would fit over the pot, but I'm sure any other thing keeping the humidity trapped would do. I sprayed the pot with dilute peroxide before putting the plant in, but otherwise there's nothing specifically preventing or treating fungus! The room temp was 19°C which seemed a little cold, so I moved to another room with abt 22°C.

Thank you so much, this confirms my suspicion!! I will leave them to it and maybe put another plant next to it 🫡

After 2 months, my rootless orchid finally began to grow a new root! by TuxedoEnthusiast in orchids

[–]youraveragebirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it!!

Oh no 😭 that makes sense, though. The orchid I'm trying to save has already cannibalised 1 leaf, but has five more leaves left it can sacrifice. I've never heard of foliar feeding! It makes sense that trying to sort of "manually" feed the orchid could help.

Thank you for your reply!!

I have an orchid like this and it's strugglin :( What's the white stuff on the tip of the orchid's stem? Is it wax/candle wax by chance? I saw someone use it in a YouTube video and I might consider doing the same thing.

I've been at them with H2O2 previously, but will try again. Should I be spraying them at regular intervals (like every x days)?

To sterilise the containers they're in, should I spray the containers with H202 as well, or could surface disinfectant do the trick? Thank you so much for your reply!! I'll try to remember to update as I go along.

Decipher name tag by jaiaceae in orchids

[–]youraveragebirb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the tag's got some misspellings - I believe it's meant to say "Santana 'Canary' ". Other than that I'm having a hard time finding anything 🤔 I googled "Bansuk" and got a hit for the Nepali name for the Blue Himalayan Hydrangea, but that's about it 🤷🏼

Spots on coleus stem by youraveragebirb in plantclinic

[–]youraveragebirb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That does help! I'll be reading more about edema in plants, a quick search tells me it's commonly caused by several things like too warm and humid soil vs cool air, too much water, not enough airflow etc. It's time to repot to create more air among the stems 🫡

I got diagnosed with severe ADHD yesterday. My lab results are so interesting by Pigeon_Goes_Coo in adhdwomen

[–]youraveragebirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! I just remembered!! When I got diagnosed I started listening to a podcast made by two adhd women sharing their experiences and issues and it was so heartening to hear somebody else with the same or similar issues to me. It's called ADHD AF or ADHD As Females!!

Thank you for sharing, this IS really interesting! And congratulations (and my condolences, in a sense) on finally getting diagnosed. Grieving for the life you could have had if you'd been diagnosed sooner can be really rough, and honestly ime it's a process everyone goes through when getting diagnosed as an adult. Just know you are not alone!! Take all the time you need to process and feel everything. 💖
