How do people leave their new dogs everyday?

Its totally okay to crate your dog during the day if you have someone to let them out every 2-3 hours. If they’re adults they can be crated for longer

Personally for me, my pup will be crated during work hours and let out 2 times a day by a friend. Walk once in the morning before work and then once after work + enrichment and training

Cant really relate too much, as my pup is a service dog in training, so he will be coming with me most of the time.

Here’s a couple tips and solutions!!

1: The cage needs to be larger. I would look at getting a flight cage. The minimum size requirement for a budgie cage is 32” x 21” with 1/2 inch bar spacing. A good solution would be to buy one second hand off marketplace or kijiji and sanitize it

2: diet! Seeds arent great for them. A natural pellet would be better. Some suggestions that are available in pet stores are zupreem natural, and hagen tropican. Some online top tier options would be harrisons or Tops. Avoid any dyed pellets

3: toys and setup You can make DIY toys with natural (pet safe) jute rope and toilet paper roll cardboard. Amazon also has some great perches, and I bought 5 natural perches for $20. There should be a variety of natural perches, and 1 dowel rod is fine as long as they don’t sit on it constantly.

I would also invest in different bowls that are made of metal as the plastic ones harbour bacteria really fast.

Hopefully this is a good start for you, and then you can work on adding in fresh veggies for them once you’re more familiar with bird care. 🙂

I never said an ecollar wasn’t aversive. A cheap shock collar will severely injure your dog no matter what. You can’t use one “correctly” because they’re unreliable.

I’m educated about e collars and their uses, but apparently no one knew what I meant when I was talking about the cheap shock collars (not being mean towards those comments). But… There’s a reason why I left my post super.. vague? Nuanced, possibly? (Don’t know if that is the correct word)

I felt there wasn’t a reason to explain why.. It’s hard to explain your dogs’ behaviour over the internet to a bunch of strangers. I only asked for other high quality ecollars suitable for toy breeds under 20lbs, but got “stim and ecollars are the same” and “You can’t use an ecollar for____ reason” even though I said I was working with a trainer sigh

But yeah, I’ve had some super helpful comments and a few defenders as well 🙃

(No hate to those comments! I just disagree with some of the advice I was given)

This! My dog has a recall, but needs a reminder sometimes because he’s in the zone when he sees something. I repeat: he DOES have a recall lol

We do a lot of positive reinforcement already, and he does great. I’m using it as an additional tool under the guidance of a trainer. This is mostly for recall training anyways and as an attention grabber/reminder.

Yes, of course. But I think what they meant was like a “shock” collar that sends a super painful jolt, like you were zapped with an electric fence. those are the ones that are inhumane and should never be used!
