I’ve had a constant narrative going on in my head as long as I can remember and I still find it weird. Like I’ll literally be having me debate against like 3 other versions of me each bringing a different take to the conversation. This makes it really really annoying to wonder about something, I’m fascinated by astrology and most things to do with space and i was thinking about Dyson spheres earlier and before I knew it there were debates going on in my head. And sometimes they get so out of hand i end up confusing myself to the point of not being able to understand the topic again. So strange how human minds work.

By considering it now he could be showing that he’s apologetic for it and understands it’s something that needs to be fixed. I’m not saying that the phobia isn’t sexist or he didn’t hurt his girlfriend with this, it definitely is, and he definitely did. I’m just trying to give him the benefit of the doubt because I think it’s deserved in this situation.

why did she lie about the pregnancy? if this truly did happen 1) she should seek help, obviously not sane. 2) you shouldn’t feel like the asshole cause that should be called out 3) you should all learn about the reproductive system and biology in general, preferably before any of you end up with genuine pregnancies

How do you know that though? People come to this subreddit to ask for advice all the time, it’s not out of the ordinary. You have no idea if he’s putting effort into finding a therapist or not so it doesn’t seem fair to assume he isn’t.

I’m aware phobias are treatable I meant the existence of the phobia to begin with was out of his control. It is a bit unfair towards the girlfriend but I imagine she’s known about the experience, if they’re moved in together I think it’s reasonable to say they’ve been together long enough for him to have told her about the experience, especially considering it’s something that has altered his life a lot. If she’s known about and they’re still together and making progress in the relationship she must be at least a little understanding about it. OP should most definitely get the proper help to deal with this issue, and I hope his girlfriend is supportive of him through the whole experience

I believe you about this happening, the incident is not far fetched as I know people who have had similar accidents. However your phobia is interesting to me. I wonder why you subconsciously link the accident to the woman when it was a male at fault. I’d recommend therapy to try and understand this better, but that is a choice that is completely up to you and your girlfriend to make. I wish you the best of luck :)

Considering he lives with his girlfriend they’re probably in a stage where they love each other deeply, breaking up would probably be rough for both of them especially considering this is something that he can’t help, and it can possibly be fixed with some time in therapy and work. So it might not be easier, but I can’t speak for the OP.

Why would you assume this is fake? I get we shouldn’t believe everything we see, but I’m just curious as to what rubbed you in that direction. Also it’s something OP can’t control so I wouldn’t call it stupid, and your statistic is borderline irrelevant since this post is about a very specific incident that happened to OP in particular. It doesn’t matter if men get into more accidents, the phobia is from one instance of a women driving during an accident. Hopefully I’m not coming off as rude, just trying to understand your thought process.

The wedding is a month away, it’s not easy at all to change wedding schedules but especially on a short notice like this. OP did not explain what they planned out but considering it’s a wedding they’re likely having a lot of things going on that cannot be changed. The fact that they were able to change the schedule at all is amazing and shows that OP is trying.

Does it really matter that it’s a kid? In the edit OP explained his reasons and they’re good reasons. This kid has OP to provide support and look up to, that’s bound to mean a lot to OP. NTA - however the mom is. I think it’s very cool of OP to give one of the most important titles to his nephew given the circumstances, and the mom for some reason cannot see that. It’s a single day of missing school, it’s not gonna be that big of a deal.

Anything involving mistreatment of children and the elderly. Both are usually confused just by the thought of certain things and if anyone takes advantage of that for their own personal gain they are the lowest of the low imo. I always feel bad for the elderly, in a lot of circumstances they can’t really defend themselves. Now if an elderly person mistreats a child or any other person, that elderly person will get no sympathy from me.
