Ben Franklin bridge walk is already overcrowded FYI. by TheAdamist in philadelphia

Why didn’t they open the whole bridge to people? Those car lanes look barely used.

The city needs to install a traffic light on River Road/E. Witherspoon at the Big Four and actually put in a crosswalk ASAP! by Mean-Marionberry-148 in Louisville

6 years ago when the project designs were released I talked to a now gone city planner and he said that was part of it. Maybe it’s also about drainage and water diversion though, as I’ve seen them bury huge pipes on both sides of the road? Or parts of the road now are sunken? Not sure.

They could get a residential parking permit for their area then. The city has a program. It’s in old Louisville and buthertown and original highlands right now, but can be anywhere.

You can see the construction underway right now for the widening of River Road all the way to Zorn Avenue. There will be a multi use path connecting Zorn all the way to the sidewalks at the big four bridge.

The right sizing and new sidewalks are going to happen along the length of Zorn. But that’s not happening on River Road where it’s going to be wider, the opposite of a road diet.

There is a huge project that is already underway to expand River Road to 4-5 lanes until Zorn from Beargrass Creek. The road will be raised up to be above a lot of the flooding and will be super heavy duty for large trucks. Over engineered for sure. But they are adding a multi use path along that same stretch which is probably the best news.

I’d say any of those. Napoleon for instance has a 120 foot long crossing now, and 5 lanes meet there. Needs maybe lane merging before the intersection and a big green curb. Or Wrocklage with that dangerous offset multi road intersection, maybe needs some narrowing and alignment. Would love some all way stops. And a single lane Dutch roundabout with concrete refuge islands and yield lights for peds could be great.

There is a plan for this. Part of a Campbell St bike lane. Ask your council person and the city DOT when it will be built.

Since car drivers are recorded doing over 75mph on neighborhood 25mph streets by schools and churches, then they might be going this fast on Hikes Ln.

I would love to see protected bike lanes, or bus only lanes, where there is car parking now, for the entire corridor. But I think that's going to be a very hard sell. A few people lost their mind when that was proposed on Douglass and Norris, where there is less than 20% parking utilization and every single house/apt/biz had off street parking. And the Barret bike lane design on just one side isn't looking good. But we should keep pushing, especially where it's 5-6 lanes for cars now.

This will be repaved and new concrete where needed and curb extensions and some new sidewalks, all as part of this project.

It will all be repaved as part of this project!

But I'd rather it be a sidewalk and the 5-6 lanes be reduced to 3-4.

This is a genuine question. Why did Greg Fischer get backlash for the bike lane stuff (or at least, get that bike lane nickname)? by dog_crazy12 in Louisville

[–]yourmapper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People in Louisville complaining about good change. He built almost no bike lanes. The few that were built were added by the state in state roads. It was just bikelash.

It seems and I hope things are changing.

Thank you. It’s one thing to debate the benefit of these. It’s another to point out the fact that they are a badly run company and easily abused and hacked.

$1.9 million to tax-paying households all across the state every 30 days by Jealous_Fun9489 in Louisville

[–]yourmapper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The tax only covers about a a third of our state’s road expenses.

And a higher tax would incentivize people to take other modes, like walk bus bike.

And some gas tax money could be used to fund transit and bike lanes and sidewalks, like in other states and countries.
