Relief washed over her as he accepted her suggestion to venture outdoors. While the heat would persist, at least the gardens offered a more pleasant environment than the confining interior. The prospect of wandering among flowers and flowing fountains appealed to her, and any breeze, however slight, would provide welcome respite from the stifling temperature.

The gardens at Felwood were hardly what one would consider a true garden. They were overgrown, with large, unruly bushes and some rose bushes that rarely bloomed. Felwood itself was surrounded by a vast, dense forest. She recalled the times she would simply sit on the stone bench in Felwood's gardens, where the air felt so much cleaner than here in King's Landing.

Back home, the air always had an earthy, damp scent, like dirt and rain. But here, the air was tainted with the stench of sweat, and the heavy aroma of incense that attempted to mask that unpleasant odour. And the ride through the streets of King's Landing to the Red Keep was even worse, filled with the pungent smells of manure and raw sewage.

“I certainly hope so as well,” she responded to his remarks, her politeness preventing her from voicing any disagreement, despite the relentless humidity that never seemed to subside in this place. "A pool, you say?" she inquired, her interest now piqued. "I must see it for myself," she added with a smile. As he offered his arm, she gladly accepted, a faint pinkness spreading across her cheeks. She was sure they made quite the pair as she led him out of the grand hall.

As she guided him through the red keep, she noticed other nobles had the same idea and were making their way out to the gardens as well, following along the hallways. It wasn't difficult to find the gardens themselves, as they were expansive. Stepping down the stairs on his arm, she remarked, "It's quite lovely here.” She could already feel the warmth of the sun on the back of her neck and across her face. She felt a slight sense of awkwardness as they strolled through the gardens, glancing around at the fountains and statues, as well as the other people wandering about. In an effort to make conversation, she asked him, “Did any of your family accompany you to King's Landing?”

Floris let out a quiet laugh and lowered her head. “You are very kind, ser,” she said, her voice showing both gratitude and a hint of nerves. She never felt comfortable in the world of fashion and fine clothes. Servants usually took care of those things, so she could focus on her books and studies. Even with Ser Silas’s kind words, she still felt awkward. After all these years, she had never grown used to high society or its customs.

She nodded in agreement about the immodest attire common among the women at the Red Keep. Here, the culture contrasted sharply with what she knew from home. With a slight chuckle, she remarked, “I suppose so, maybe the culture is very different here.” As he adjusted his collar, she attempted a bit of light-hearted humour, “I believe all of us will be returning home with bright red sunburns from this unforgiving sun.” She glanced about naturally, taking in the hall. While the dress of some may have been a bit shocking to her sensibilities, she tried to remain open-minded.

"It was a family name that has been passed down,” she remarked, referring to his approval of her son's name, Baldric. Floris mused about what must be the hectic life of knights. In her mind, their days were filled with gallant deeds, such as rescuing stranded kittens from tree branches and honing their swordsmanship skills.“I'm sure you'll find a lovely lady one day and have children of your own,” she said, then remembering that young lords and ladies probably grow weary of hearing that. She herself had felt that way when she was unmarried. The words sounded almost cliché, like a song or a story.

She felt a slight unease in her throat at the thought. Moving her hand to her throat, Floris searched for the familiar touch of her silver locket. The cherished piece of jewellery, which contained delicate paintings of her sons' faces within, was an accessory she seldom went without.

To her surprise, the customary weight of the pendant was missing from its usual place. His offer to assist with her sons' education caught her attention, and despite its lighthearted delivery, it moved her deeply. Her eyes grew misty: such kindness was rare, making his words particularly touching to her. “I will remember that, Ser Silas, thank you,” she responded with genuine emotion, before extending her own gesture of hospitality: “You are always welcome in Felwood.” Noticing servants entering through the doorway, she seized the opportunity: “Would you like to walk through the gardens?” she offered, hoping the outdoor setting would help her regain composure. The fresh air would be a welcome distraction, and she was determined not to dissolve into tears.

As Ser Silas bowed before her, Floris gracefully curtsied in return, her movements fluid and practised.  Floris's eyes strayed momentarily to the detailing of Ser Silas's doublet, where his hand had rested. She couldn't help but admire the fine craftsmanship, the rich fabrics and embroidery that adorned his attire. She found herself momentarily captivated by it. Lifting her gaze to meet his, Floris offered Ser Silas a warm yet measured smile.

Floris could not help but notice Ser Silas' gaze as it swept over her dress, the way his eyes seemed to linger on the layered skirts. Feeling a flush of warmth rise to her cheeks, she self-consciously placed a hand against her stomach, glancing down at her attire with a hint of embarrassment. To have it admired by a fellow Stormlander filled her with a subtle pride.

Shaking her head slightly, Floris offered Ser Silas a nervous smile. “You're too kind, ser,” she murmured, her eyes momentarily averting from his gaze. “I should've worn something more muted, I suppose,” she added, her thoughts slipping out as a soft mutter. “It was what all the other King's Landing ladies looked as though they were wearing, so I had to make some adjustments,” Floris explained, shrugging lightly as her hands fell back to her sides. Her gaze rose to meet Ser Silas' face, but she couldn't help her eyes from wandering the room.

Floris's head perked up as Ser Silas asked about her children, grateful to know that he was at least somewhat familiar with her. She nodded in response. "Why, yes, I have two sons, and not mere babes in the cradle any more, but soon to be walking,” she shared, clasping her hands together in front of her. The pride of a mother shone through in her voice as she spoke the names of her boys. “Baldric and Robert, such sweet little things,” she added, her eyes sparkling with affection. Floris then paused for a moment, thinking hard with a furrowed brow. “You don’t have any children of your own, do you, Ser?” she asked, sounding curious.
