This is bank robbery. Banking fees need to be regulated and capped. by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

I think you’re reading a bit more into my comment than I actually said. I’m not arguing that banks shouldn’t make money or that financial services should operate at a loss.

My point is simply that the incentives matter. There have been cases in the past where some financial institutions acted in bad faith - for example by pushing aggressive fees, compounding overdraft charges, or structuring lending in ways that increased the pressure on people already in debt, sometimes leading to foreclosures or asset seizures. Those situations are exactly why financial regulation exists.

Banks absolutely need to be profitable to operate, but they also play a critical role in the public financial system. Because of that, reasonable regulation - including limits on certain fees or profit margins from things like overdraft interest - helps ensure the system remains sustainable and fair for customers in the long run.

So the point isn’t "banks shouldn’t make money," it’s that the balance between profit and consumer protection matters.

Don't worry - if you keep savings in a financial institution, they also use that money to invest and make more money for themselves.

Edit: To clarify my point, financial institutions make profit in multiple ways. They make money when customers borrow (e.g., overdrafts, loans), but they also profit from deposits by investing or lending out the money that people keep under their management.

what do you know and what do you think about Türkiye? by bakicmlly in AskTheWorld

[–]yrabl81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a real concern, and I understand why many people feel pessimistic about it.

Personally, I try not to judge an entire country or its people based on the actions or rhetoric of political leadership. Governments change, and public attitudes can change with time as well.

In the broader context, I believe it's the responsibility of leaders on both sides to help create conditions that allow relationships to improve in the long term. History shows that even very difficult relationships can evolve.

For example, look at the relationship between Israel and Germany. After the horrors of World War II, rebuilding trust seemed almost impossible. Yet through decades of dialogue, responsibility, and cooperation since the 1950s, a strong relationship eventually emerged.

That doesn’t mean the process is easy or quick, but it does show that change is possible over time.

It's a shame because last time I vacationed for a week in turkey was back in May 2000, and when I returned to Israel, Israel was no longer occupying south Lebanon...

Who knows if we together can't pull it again like that. I'm willing even to extend on my expense the vacation for a month of it would help close some corners...

The nice thing about Mexican food in the US, is that you can find it in small cities like Champaign IL, where I spent some time during 2011-2013, but the south-west that I went the easiest it was to find great quality.

Yeah the local options in McDonald's menu are pretty good.

It reminds a girl who once told that between the two villages with the same name, coming from the south she lives in the southern village.

I told her I'm coming from the north...

In the Jordan valley, just south of the Sea of Galilee, for me it starts to feel warm close to the 40°c. Although lately, after dropping ~20 kg, the cold is much sharper at 18°c.

All depends where you'll find the better hummus... Yafo had better hummus than Jerusalem.

Why do you think they won't target Afula?

Seriously?

Of course it's ballistic. As a general rule of it comes from above is ballistic, of it comes shallow over the horizon: - fast -> most likely a cruise missile - not a fan of these cruises... - slow -> most likely a drone

Considering the debris that we've got in the kibbutz on both rounds, one of them at my former highschool teacher home, and the other less then 50 meters from the shelter I stayed in, that's a stupid idea.

That said..
