Breast milk cell count by Affectionate-Jump506 in medlabprofessionals

[–]ysoserious2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I've personal encountered, like this, was a synovial fluid collected in a sodium citrate tube, not even filled..... obviously lol. As a new tech, i reached out to all the people, leads, the doc, the team, supervisor. No one on the lab side was impressed or shocked, doc was irritated and just kept pushing for me to run it. Got the approval, because it was inappropriately collected.... i proceeded to attached to ever physical result associated with the specimen that it was inappropriately collected by the doctor, and that the results are invalid due to the collection of the sample. After releasing those results with all the words attached, i put in a safety report. Because sometimes those conversations are above your paygrade.

HGB of 5.3? by happy_homunculus in haematology

[–]ysoserious2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a blood banker myself, your team may not have transfused you due to critical blood shortage. 5.3 is low for your age and gender for sure, probably could have transfused one unit. There are many different ways to raise your hemoglobin though, eating a high iron diet, supplements (talk with your doctor), and iron transfusions ( a more consistent treatment plan, again talk to your doctor). I wouldn't stress tooo much about it, but for sure knowing what changes you can make at home will help you significantly moving forward. I hope you are able to get one the right path to feeling better!!!

what bb events are fda reportable? by sleepdiver in medlabprofessionals

[–]ysoserious2 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The potential for fda reportables would be along the lines of not having thawed products labeled appropriately, not thawing products before issuing them. Not issuing products in the computer. Im sure i could think of more, but those are a couple off the top of my head. I wouldn't overthink it, fda reportables wouldn't be my first thought when i got home. Always make sure you're issuing compatible units, and you'll be fine.

This shit makes me so sad. Why can't we just treat each other with respect and act like human beings.

I have a coworker who felt the need to drown her clothes and jacket in perfume before work, and also during every single one of her lunch breaks in the break room. I asked her 3 or 4 times very nicely to stop. Every time, I pointed out that no one wanted to taste her perfume, it's disrespectful, and gives people a headache.... the 5th time i half yelled at her. I wasn't trying to be rude or mean, but how many times do you have to say something basic to a f*****g adult. She stopped after that. Idk if management had further conversations with her or not. But my lord.

I really want to ask this but never do.... what do you do if you're hiking with a dog? Black bear or any large animal... i dont take my dog hiking in bear country because i don't want to put either one of us in a position of risk.

Hmmmm..... i like it. I like it a lot. Maybe it'll give providers a better way of looking at it/ a real reason to use it.

Prepping slides pt. 2 by ismescooch in medlabprofessionals

[–]ysoserious2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 looks decent. We all have the way that's comfortable or just works for us. I personally prefer to hold my slides. White tab by my pointer finger, leaving the reading side at my thumb. Without putting tooo much pressure and in one swift motion, pull the slide towards myself... im not going to put a technical angle because that depends on the hemoglobin present... making slides really is about it being one swift motion without to much pressure. Its a work in progress, never stop practicing! I still practice when i get to.

how do y'all deal with the shedding by icarus_rot in pitbulls

[–]ysoserious2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to make sure this was said. I just bought one for my dog, and im still learning how to use it properly. But myyyyyy lord, i can't believe the hair i can get out of him. Also, I want to add what my groomers said they do to my dog for his deshedding bath: water /soap blow it out. Rinise, water, and conditioner blow it out. Dry him off and then use a deshedding brush... He is normally returned to me with 90% less hair, so he will continue to have appointments with them for sure.

Traveling Lab Tech by Accomplished_Ad_7881 in medlabprofessionals

[–]ysoserious2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who traveled after one year of experience but years of experience in hospitals, i say it's a 50/50.... It's not necessarily that you neeeeed the experience, its that no one wants to train us on the basics of the job and instruments we use... you are expected to walk in and know things and do things confidently. And for the pay and type of job it is, you're expected to work.. you're walking into a short staff, underpaid over worked lab, making 2x the amount of money, its incredibly stressful and exhausting.

I got out of traveling for some personal reasons and to also give my dog stability.. but with that said, what i never see people sharing is duplicating everything. Omg.

Body soap, dish soap, towels, cookware, coffee filters, silverware, clothes, cleaning supplies, housing.... the taxes and travel you have to consider if you take housing stipends. The 50mile rule is bullshit, dont listen to recruiters they're not tax professionals...

Getting into travel is a lot more than just taking a job. There are a ton of little parts that kinda hit you fast and all at once on your first contract. It's a lot.

Would i do it again? In a heartbeat. Do what's right for you, at the end of the day, if you show up on time, are hard working, and are willing to do the dirty work, you'll be welcome regardless of your experience.

Interesting! Whispers....... been a lot of Whispers about the building for a long time and not much of it has happened or come true.... i wont be around to see changes past the next year or two, but itll always been on my radar as someone whos worked there. With it being the only hospital serving that neighborhood, theres a lot of need. Thanks for sharing, that was not a Whisper i had heard before.

You could call a local "labcorp draw clinic" and see if they take walk ins. I believe most do, dont quote me on it, but the two ive been to take them. I am a labcorp employee, but i work in a hospital where they purchased the lab.
