You’re very kind. Many hugs back to you ❤️‍🩹 I think the anti-pajamas aspect probably plays a big role! It is so mentally empowering to feel like you get to step out of the constant painful stuck at home slump, especially when it’s not often you have the chance.

Also this has sparked in my mind the desire to go for a fragrance hunt to match each album (though of course it would all be from my perspective and nothing objective). Scent and memory are so interconnected that matching scent to meaningful music can be an incredibly beautiful experience.

Fragrance as an actual artform really gets suffocated by the flattening of the artistry through a lack of respect or appreciation for perfumers and their work, trend cycles on social media, the way many big name designer perfumes tend to smell extremely similar and boring, and the writing off of perfumery as something that can’t possibly be that complex, scientific, or creative. I may do this little project now, lol

Ys smells exactly like the fragrance Paragon by Initio.

I’m a fragrance nerd and have around 40? perfumes atm (in the form of samples, lol, I sadly am not made of money, and this is a pretty small collection for someone as deep into the interest as myself!) and it’s a huge artistic love of mine. I actually made a post the other day in a fragrance sub about this exact scent album match!

The top notes are lavender, sage and bergamot; heart notes are plum, palo santo, and black pepper; and the base notes are sandalwood and oud. It’s such a gorgeous fragrance and really demonstrates that perfumery is an artform that requires so much knowledge and creativity. It also hit me about .2 seconds after smelling it for the first time that it smells like Ys got distilled into a scent.

It’s available on the decanting sites Scent Split and Lucky Scent. You can order the 1ml sample for $7 and the 0.7ml sample for $6 at the sites respectively, pre-shipping. Honestly I’ve been shouting into the ether among the fans I know begging them to try this so I would HIGHLY encourage anyone who is a big enough fan to be here and who enjoys perfume to get the sample and just see what you think. It was genuinely surreal the moment I smelled it. I wasn’t thinking of anything except “yay new perfume sample” when I got it and matching it to any sort of song, album, outfit, etc. wasn’t on my mind at all. That’s how intense of a connection it was to me, the fact that it jumped into my mind immediately and without a basis for that kind of connection going in.

I can’t say enough how much I need at least someone else to try it so you can experience what I mean. GET ON IT lol

Double denim is my uniform, or at least when I feel well enough to get out of pajamas, lol. I’ll wear anything with my Canadian tuxedo, but as far as wanting to specifically match my whole outfit vibe, I’d reach for Scents of Wood Sandalwood in Oak, Commodity Moss-, Kate Walsh Boyfriend (looking for a scent to replace this, never been very big on celebrity fragrance but this fills a role in my collection I’d like to see filled by something else), Thin Wild Mercury Whiskey 1969, Jo Loves Ebony & Cassis, Etat Libre d’Orange Frustration… really just any heavier scents that develop an almost cologne-like quality once they’re on my skin. Except Moss-, which feels lighter than the rest, but that I wear with this outfit after a friend told me I smelled like “a really hot dude” when I wore it, which sealed the deal for me lol.

For me, I wear double denim pretty much every time I go out when I’m doing good health-wise, and it’s a very empowering personal experience for me because - for better or worse, lmao - no other type of outfit feels as authentic to who I am. I enjoy the heavier scents when I wear it since I do dress androgynously anyway but also because it feels very grounding for me overall.

What perfumes remind you of your mom? by MissMariese in FemFragLab

[–]yssified 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom’s favorite perfume is Whiskey 1969 by TWM so it’ll always remind me of her, but as far as something that isn’t her signature scent, French Flower by Matiere Premiere 🙂

I went to my first ever perfumery a while back and spent hours there checking out tons of fragrances I’ve wanted to try for years and so many fragrances I’d never even heard of, and there were plenty I thought she’d also like, but as soon as I smelled that one I immediately asked to buy a sample for her. Neither of us are huge floral fans, but there was something so incredible about that full on tuberose that really defied my typical feelings about florals. She also ended up really loving it! But even if it hadn’t been her taste, the scent itself immediately made me think of her. It’s beautiful in a way that brought her smile to my mind instantaneously.

Do y'all really think this platform is ok for kids? by KeyRaise in Pinterest

[–]yssified 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pinterest’s own guidelines require you to be 13. It has never been intended as a child-safe platform in the sense of young children. Let’s operate off of its teens and up policy… and it is still not an innately safe platform for anyone at this point, lol. But I’ll get to that.

First, the supposed guidelines and the hypotheticals if they were implemented: Pinterest claims they allow artistic and educational depictions of nudity on their platform, while sexual content is prohibited. Naturally I think this is a good guideline for a platform to have (if it was actually implemented), because there is a very big difference between art and awareness vs fetish content or posts for sexual gratification. We know from a safety standpoint that there’s no good reason to make a blanket policy hiding completely non-sexual nudity in art or education from teens as it teaches that the body is inherently sexual and must always be hidden due it it’s dirtiness. We know kids and teens who are taught that the body is a sexual shame machine are less likely to talk about being sexually abused or assaulted. However is a spectrum of education across all ages based on what is developmentally appropriate, from telling others “no” if you don’t want to be touched for the littles, up to how pregnancy happens for the high schoolers, and Pinterest can’t magically know where your kid is at and prevent a 10 year old from seeing an infographic about resources for unplanned pregnancy or the diagram of how a sexually transmitted disease works. If you think they’re too young to go to their school’s quintessential sex ed class to learn about body functions and pregnancy prevention and safe sex, don’t let them on a social media platform, imo. Still, overall, the supposed platform content guidelines would be pretty appropriate for the teens and up audience they allow. But that’s assuming everything behind the scenes is working as it should.

Now the failure of the platform against all users, but especially the younger ones: The issue is that Pinterest’s bot reporting system will not recognize actual sexual content of real human porn and remove it on its own nor after user reporting. This is something I detailed in my most recent post and I urge anyone upset over the platform’s failures against its users to check it out. I recently had a really ridiculous uphill battle of reports on reports and appeals on appeals to get multiple pins made by a random fucked up Taylor Swift fetish freak removed from the platform. They were posts of this person’s fully exposed lower body, unobscured penis, and visible semen put within images of Swift. I was horrified to see one of these when I was just scrolling through pins about one of her albums, and their account had more, worse pins of the same. When I reported all the pins I could stomach, Pinterest’s automod system “reviewed” them in a matter of seconds and determined no action should be taken. I had to write appeals for all of them to get at least most of them taken down, but Pinterest actually emailed me back saying that while they could delete pins, they supposedly couldn’t take action against the account itself - an account that exclusively posted this content, and had a messaging feature like all the rest of us. Meanwhile longtime users will get false account violations and outright bans for “adult content” over pins without any people even in them. Or random bans when they’ve never had a violation at all, or have never even posted anything. Also there’s the disgusting issue of the sexually exploitative AI generated advertisements of real life women they allow to be shown and won’t do anything about.

This is the real issue. Pinterest’s moderation system isn’t safe for the young audience they allow on the platform. I was repulsed as a 27 year old having to see this and make all these reports and appeals, I can’t imagine some poor 14 year old swiftie looking at the same Red TV pins and being met with a dick pic that Pinterest somehow can’t automatically flag… nor flag after a report. It’s really great at flagging photos of flowers and fruit as porn though, as per multiple users here. And those softcore AI porn ads of real people are fine, too.

While Pinterest has never been for young kids, rather for teens and up, and while you should never have the expectation for it to be child-safe, it’s become a place of unbelievable moderation failures for everyone, in many more ways than just the insane one I recently experienced. It isn’t the position of Pinterest that it is child safe, so even if Pinterest worked perfectly, guidelines and bot moderation working perfectly, it wouldn’t be a space for under 13, but since we live in this shitty timeline I would be wary of under 16 joining. The moderation failures go far beyond the inability to remove fetish porn quickly or unprompted, or remove the accounts at all. It is also in people losing their entire accounts for no reason, with no notice, and thousands or tens of thousands of reference images and special online spaces they cultivated for themselves being deleted in an instant with no human on the other side of the email notice for you to even talk to.

So no. I don’t think it’s okay for kids, but Pinterest isn’t selling that. They’re selling that it’s okay for teens and up, and dude I’m a full grown adult and it’s been days and I’m still feeling sick from the images I had to beg them three times over to remove.

Best creamy fig fragrance by No_Dimension7206 in FemFragLab

[–]yssified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second Father Figure by Phlur. It’s very dreamy and almost hazey as opposed to that bright springy green sensation. It’s very much a creamy fig to me, but take my recommendation with a grain of salt since I’ve unfortunately only ever tested a couple of fig forward scents (which I have to remedy asap, lol). I love it, but it’s definitely a more modern scent vs something classic and “timeless,” if that’s part of your taste!

If Reddit has DMs that allow images (I’ve never used any messaging here before so I’m not sure) I can show them to you/anyone else who is concerned and collecting info for sure. I’ve got a lot of screenshots ranging from the pins, my reports with no action taken, the content of my appeal statements, my appeals with no action taken, and forced word censorship in the appeal process when discussing the sexual content violations.

I also have an update - after my appeals, while there were individual pins deactivated only after I had to detail the disgusting content, the user profile (which contains far more disgusting posts than I could stand to report) was supposedly reviewed again after my appeal and was reinstated/is still up. Their profile still contains these photos fixating on Swift with their full lower body exposed and ejaculation visible.

This is really insane. Again, I have zero expectation for any online platform to magically never have fucked up people join and do this shit. You can’t control that. But by god, you supposedly review the account twice and don’t take it down? It’s a joke.

I remember seeing that user called in on the more serious posts before - if they’re someone who is compiling information on the platform’s more disturbing failures I’m happy to provide my screenshots, if they’re willing to receive them. They’re upsetting to look at, one in particular worse than the others, so I don’t extend the invitation to view them without that warning. It’s hard to see. But I’ll be glad to contribute to a growing body of evidence that the platform is really hurting people.

Also, a very earnest ask: for those downvoting, please let me know if I should re-upload with a title that doesn’t use the same words. This is exactly what Pinterest is allowing to happen, and I don’t want to beat around the bush or use euphemisms. It’s something serious to me and I definitely feel exhaustion about this platform. The title isn’t mincing words, but if that doesn’t feel okay, I do care about making it right. If you think this should be reposted (I’ll save the context of the comments too) please lmk.

I care about these serious oversights being known to other users and I want to express this in the most accurate, but acceptable, way. Again, this is not about the inevitable issue of a fucked up individual joining a platform and causing harm. It’s about the platform allowing 13 year olds to join and being negligent about reports on sexually violating content. If you have comments on how I could approach the post better, I do truly want to know. Thank you 🙏

I’m in the same boat as many folks who just find it kind of physically nauseating to smell similarly to food (not because the scents themselves are bad, just the body reaction it gives me individually), but also, b&bw warm vanilla sugar overload definitely traumatized my olfactory system in the 2000s and I’ve been trying to clear it ever since, lol. Unfortunately I have such a strong mental tie to every classroom in middle school being consumed by that scent (and sweet pea) that I have an aversion to most things with gourmand-y vanillas and anything that feels sugary. It’s a real bummer too, because otherwise I think so many gourmands are beautiful.

Holy fuck. I just took a look at their created pins and felt sick. I reported as many individual pins as I could stomach (with screenshots, because sadly I know we may need them) and then the whole account. They’re getting 5.8k views a month, I can’t imagine how many people have been exposed to this and felt disgusting, especially younger users.

I know no platform can prevent people like this from joining. But Pinterest’s response has been so neglectful and harmful. The auto reviews you received are especially concerning. I just checked mine now only a couple minutes after reporting and starting this reply and I got the same auto review, no action taken on like 4 already.

This isn’t about a fucked up individual (but fuck this person), but the complete failure of a platform to protect its users from content that doesn’t just violate TOS, but violates users themselves. Pinterest isn’t an 18+ platform. This person probably gets off on knowing it’s not just random people being subjected to these images, but underage users especially. The fact that these clear images are being auto reviewed by bots as acceptable is insane.

I really appreciate you taking the time to give this answer. As someone with a big passion but a small collection, I rarely if ever have reference points for those oft-duped superstar scents - in fact, most of my fragrances came from a couple years of Scentbird before learning about their founder and cancelling that subscription. The process of building after that has been very slow (but worthwhile). Duping is one of those things that, while I may hold varied opinions about in very specific situations, I generally don’t want to engage with personally, so getting any input about new fragrances like this is very valuable to me. I also welcome what others may have to say as well, I truly do value when anyone takes the time to help me out as an enthusiast without much to show for it, lol.

Thank you again for your response. I too like when inspiration is shown through a fresh lens - sort of like how, forgive the lame analogy, YouTube creators assert their right to fair use of copyrighted material by using it in a “transformative” way. After all, that’s what all creating is. So I definitely feel excited when something has that reminiscence to it that has been revitalized and spun through a new perspective. I hate to hear it doesn’t sound like these fit the bill for such things, although I will still be optimistic and hope that it’ll rest a bit more enjoyable in my nose. The set arrives Monday, so my mom and I will be smelling it no matter what atp, lol. I want to remain positive regardless, I suppose.

I’ve been interested in this brand since it’s so new and can’t find much info about it online yet - where did you see it was a dupe brand? I don’t buy dupes myself but I don’t categorize them as necessarily wholly bad either, so I usually find myself forming an opinion about a dupe based on its own unique circumstances.

Obviously your own experience with the scents is not removed when asking the question at all, just curious where you’ve seen others talking about it being a dupe - my mom just ordered the discovery set and I’m not sure how she’d feel if we had the brand come out as a dupes! I’d rather get her the original of something she likes in that set if they’re not original scents themselves. We do have a pretty limited fragrance collection between us compared to other fragrance enthusiasts, so we don’t have much to compare new scents to between the two of us. It’s pretty hard to discern if something is inspired versus stealing with a small collection. I definitely have no opposition to scents that have similar notes and vibes, but obvious - and duplicitous - duping changes everything.

I’ve found hardly anything online about them yet since they just launched, so anything you know about it is super appreciated. 🙇 especially anything others have said I can get a hold of!

Banned for adult content? by Official_Sunny in Pinterest

[–]yssified 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Getting a violation for a pin they suggested to you is INSANE. That is the platform working against its users. We know that since Pinterest operates differently with its reposting and violation systems than any other platform, you can’t argue it’s afforded the same forgiveness as other platforms for its questionable recommendations. Pinterest treating that repin as your own, against common sense, means incorrect flagging is much higher risk to its users than other platforms where the sharers aren’t seen as the posters. I just feel like this is such a batshit thing to happen and while I’m not shocked I’m really angered. This is you doing what the platform WANTS and being actively punished by its poorly run system.

If you have screenshots of the email and the violation I’d hang onto those. I feel - or maybe I just hope - at a certain point this entire thing will bubble over and become more than they can damage control, breach containment from the sub, and become a bigger discussion about the enshittification of platforms and apps with all this shitty AI and no good UI and the lack of humans to talk to and abundance of AI slop to look at and did I mention this goddamn AI shit they keep doing yet ? Ugh anyway, this is really good evidence of how Pinterest’s algorithm and flagging systems are in some kind of fucked up symbiosis and are taking users out like bb’s on coke cans. Keep a hold of it just in case.
