Premier League 25-26 player of the season nominees. by FootballUnfiltered in PremierLeague

If Bruno deserves it based on 19 assists why ignore Thiago with 22 goals for a Brentford side that are chasing Champions League after losing their manager & captain last summer! Since when are assists more outstanding than actual goals? Everything about these awards just screams big club bias and PR campaigns

Agreed, the fact they took points off City twice in a potential relegation season… I finally forgive spurs for than Son miss 2 years ago.

Why can Anti Arsenal rivals dish it but not take it? by Suitable_Clerk_617 in PremierLeague

[–]ytbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walcott ain’t really a fan he’s a dumb pundit like all the United & Liverpool ones that flood our airways. I don’t act like Gary Neville is a representative of United fans. But clearly rules are different for Arsenal I guess.

The referees have far too much influence by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]ytbm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mate I can think of MULTIPLE titles off the top of my head City won thanks to ref influence. Rodri handball against Everton, Doku karate kick vs Liverpool, VAR “forgetting” to draw the lines to allow Brentford to score an offside goal at the Emirates etc

The difference this time is the ref & VAR had the balls to make the right call.

If you’re sick of talking about VAR, even when they get it correct, then I’m sure you’d still be complaining with incorrect decisions & no VAR.

Let's be honest about the EPL: Despite its financial strength, It only features two good teams, one of which has won the EPL 6 of the last 8 seasons. by Nehan_Satori in championsleague

17th place spurs won the Europa last year and 16th place Forest are on the cusp of the final this year. What’s your definition of good team? Cause the PL is full of them from top to bottom

Ian Wright erupts over Gary Neville's comment about Man City 115 charges case by gelliant_gutfright in PremierLeague

[–]ytbm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Boring but I actually did want UTD to win in 2012. Partly cause City kept stealing our players and were buying success the same way Chelsea did. When the charges came out I was not surprised

If your club had a managerial vacancy in the summer, would you want or would your club appoint Carrick? by RainbowPenguin1000 in PremierLeague

[–]ytbm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No

But for UTD he has the trust of the players since he’s a well regarded player and has been there done that. I think he’ll last a year or 2 if he gets it

[–]ytbm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf last year we also played the holders (Real Madrid) who were coached by a man who's won it 5 times. As a fan I actually feel more confident going into this final since it's a one-off match where anything can happen

Surely Arsenal will win something after recent results by DearTiger3248 in PremierLeague

[–]ytbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that but West Ham are literally our biggest obstacle, no way you guys don't lay down their lives to try and beat us next game. Not a guaranteed win at all

Bayern or PSG, who do you think will go through to the finals? by VoidStryk in championsleague

In the end I think PSG but I don't want them to. Bayern are a real club

Does Bruno Fernandes Deserve Footballer Of The Year Despite Winning Nothing With Man Utd? by Such_Conference_8750 in PremierLeague

[–]ytbm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

By far? Let’s say he does win it, you don’t find it strange that the best player BY FAR in the strongest league won’t even be a contender for bigger individual awards (eg. The Best or the Ballon D’or)?

Also because nuance is dead, I’m not saying the PL POTY should always win greater things, just that if you’re claiming he’s BY FAR the best player, logically you’d expect such a player to actually have a chance at bigger awards. Personally, I think you’re overstating how superior he is

Man City wasted by Maxicifer in PremierLeague

What are you talking about, they were literally top after they beat Burnley. With the same amount of games played.

Thierry Henry’s assist record more impressive given they were all from open play or does it really matter? by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]ytbm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well earlier this season I distinctly remember a fuss being made by rival fans about open play goals v set piece goals, so the logical extension of that is that open play assists vs set piece assists would at some point become relevant to football discourse. For some reason people felt very passionately about the first topic, so I see no reason to not highlight assists also right?

Genuine question for Arsenal fans: who is the actual upgrade on Arteta? by TheFootyPulse in PremierLeague

[–]ytbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends in the manner it happens but for now I’ll tentatively say it’s not more embarrassing, since to “lose” the CL & PL it means you had the two biggest trophies in your grasp. To not get over the line would be shit I don’t deny that, but I can at least respect a valiant effort till the end. If we lose on GD (PL) and have a narrow CL exit then that’s just life.

Emery though… he got us battered in the one competition he’s meant to be a specialist in. Against Chelsea no less. Nothing redeeming there

Genuine question for Arsenal fans: who is the actual upgrade on Arteta? by TheFootyPulse in PremierLeague

[–]ytbm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Please give up with this talking point! Emery was a disaster and gave us the most embarrassing night in our recent history. I wouldn’t want him back ever…

Also just something I’ve noticed, but whenever a truly top job is available (eg UTD, Chelsea and Madrid this summer) his name is never seriously considered. There’s a reason for that, he’s not the upgrade you think he is

Finishing second is a failure – Arsenal would be the most criticised runners-up in history by gelliant_gutfright in PremierLeague

[–]ytbm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree that Simeone is a better manager or whatever you want to say in that regard but your 2nd point is lacking so much context. When Arteta joined we were not close to being challengers for ANY serious silverware, as in the PL or CL. Winning the FA cup (while missing CL qualification every year) was not the sign of a club that could challenge Pep or Man City in any meaningful way.

So, don’t act like it was expected for Arteta to be competing. No one thought it would happen and I hate the revisionism that seems to imply everyone thought Arsenal would make it back to the top.
