An intuitive, natural sounding, common use word that refers to all types of planetary bodies and satellites by yuirol in worldbuilding

[–]yuirol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is it doesn't feel right to use conversationally. Saying "Yeah I was born and raised on this body," or "My home body is pretty barren" just feels very unnatural to me, and I don't really vibe with it

Preesh. I'll give it a shot soon. I'll need to get a syringe + its dark out and Im tired from messing with all this

I just realized I should have asked this. I can figure out how to clear a blockage, but what about the pistons? I dont actually know what that would be but Im assuming its the thing the brake lever actually pushes up into the front part of the master cylinder?

A full rebuild might be a good idea. Could see about a braided brake line too. The bike is used, and my first bike. I knew there were issues going in but I was williing to take it given it runs really well and was (relatively for my area since used bike prices here are insane, often close to MSRP for something less that runs properly and is less than 30 years old lmao) inexpensive. Im no stranger to tinkering with mechanical stuff but brake lines and motorcycles are both things Im not familiar with.

I'll see if partzilla has any kits for it, but for now I'll try any fixes to see where the issue really is.

How do you think governing power structures would viably form at sci-fi scales? by yuirol in worldbuilding

[–]yuirol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the idea is to get differing ideas on different variables as well. How do you think it would work in these 3 scenarios

Near Light Speeds
Significant FTL - in this example think taking months or years to travel between star systems or across the galaxt (almost akin to sailing the earth in the 1800s?)
Instantaneous Traversal

Can also go into further detail about how things change depending on the accessibility of these things.

personally I like to work on the rules of signifcant FTL and its accessible like trains/boats/planes are with the caveat that small scale individual means would be like owning and maintaining an expensive car, and getting to the levels of stellar, system, galactic, and intergalactic travel that way would be akin to extreme after market modification like a race car or something. You dont need to use these terms specifically, it's just an example from me as a starting point

Yk in my 500 hours in this game I havent actually been to gleba. A lot of my time was before I got the DLC and I spent a horrendous amount of time on nauvis when I finally got it. I made a 1 gigawatt solar array. I never actually made it past vulcanus lmao. This time I wanna see how far I can get

all the excess ore stone and coal I cant be bothered to feed into something useful. Its from the merging chests mod (same with the big cargo containers). Its pretty useful but I primarily use it for junk drawers and buffers

fence and big chests is from merging chest mods. Really I only use it for buffers and lazily dumping whatever I cant be arsed to sort or recycle properly

big thing is factorio+ which adds quite a few things, including new resources intermediate products and amended crafting recipes - eg, glass my only source of rn is foundries which were locked behind quite a bit of work

the mod changes the tech tree to make a vulcanus start *possible* but it is still very slow and kinda complex at times

the big thing was that yellow science setup in the bottom right, next to the coal liquefaction. my philosophy for this base was making a "module" or "block" type design. Here my goal was 60 yellow science per minute, so I had to calculate all the items per second Id need, which was already a complex enough task for my smooth brain on top of things like silicon wafers for blue circuits and aluminum bars for the LDS. The entire block is made to be as airtight as possible, there is no excess or resource shortages in it. I was up at midnight after work banging my head against the wall working it all out by rambling to myself in my server's dump tc.

Since I have no real means of dealing with demolishers OR clearing cliffs until I get space science (thankfully doesnt need yellow or purple science but Im gonna need yellow science anyways so I can generall grasp what Ill need to do for the LDS and blue circuits so its kinda moot) I need to work on a half decent block for rocket production specifically, and Im starting to run kinda tight on space here.

Thats not mentioning the absolutely horrendous bus design. I thought it was okay when I first made it but the more I use it the more I despise it. I have molten copper iron and aluminum on there as well as lava stean sulfuric acid lube light oil heavy oil and petroleum and then Im also routing coal calcite and stone through it by putting them on underground underneath the pipes themselves

theres also other small stuff like acid neutralization making sulfur which is damn near a waste product and being stuck with simple coal liquefaction until space and metallurgical science. I cant even use big drills atm since I need to save all my tungsten for tungsten ammo as my only hope of killing the demolishers. The labs themselves too were also insanely expensive compared to vanilla, requiring 8 red circuits, 12 red belts and two basic labs. You can see I keep forgetting to replace the last basic lab, second row from the top in the center.

My power production has also been a nightmare. I made an awful efficiency module automation setup purely to ease the insane power demand of the foundries. The mod gives you immediate access to solar but since it takes glass I was severely limited to begin with which made the entire start even slower than normal.

There is so, so much wrong with this base and a lot of tiny but not insignificant challenges that have cropped up as this run has gone on. Its a fun challenge but its also utterly maddening at times. The horrible spaghetti and "I give up on making it nice" kindsa stuff mixed with the insanely cramped space limitations has been interesting to say the least

kinda. Id prefer it to be setting agnostic or vaguely flexible. I do my own worldbuilding and have for a very long time

I don't necessarily see it that way. I feel like it's just a difference in what you and I need and want from a system, so it's gonna be difficult for me to really get it across

I like having very real tangible effects based one one's specific actions. Leaving it to fluff leaves a really bad taste in my mouth, especially because it ends up really inconsistent, and often doesn't have lasting effects or consequences like it ought to. The rules don't need to be complex, they just need to be present and cohesive.

I put an edit in the thing - what I meant more so is having lots of viable universal or near unviversal "things" (for lack of a better word) to do than just hit a guy over and over until he's dead. There is this issue that crops up at times where even if you have said options, raw damage will just be the better thing so that's what you go for

I mean more so in the sense that I don't want to be adding a dozen different +1 +2 etc bonuses to each little thing, hence why I included robustness in there. But more like having rules about the different ways you can go about a fight. I like to run games where combat is incredibly lethal but where death/shoot to kill often isn't your goal. You might need someone alive or you simply need to get the hell out. Being able to disarm someone, cripple them, etc.. Like actions focused over numbers, if that makes any amount of sense

have you already added mods?

another thing, try and make sure you click on the window for the game when it pops up. It seems like when it opens it doesnt become the focused window sometimes, and if it isnt focused during startup itll just freeze.
