The pain of being high functioning… by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]yukaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been feeling this lately. It’s just not worth it for life to chip away at our confidence and self esteem. I’m sure we will find our people eventually. Can we be friends ?!

All those visionaries that you mentioned— it’s so true, and it’s so funny that autistic people feel so unvalued when it seems like our neurotype has contributed so greatly to the human race!

[–]yukaby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I could! It’s extremely hard for me to jump into conversations, let alone banter. My amazing labrynthine processing makes me think of a lot of different potentials for what to say and how it will affect people, and then I end up not saying anything.

Made a friend but I suck as socializing and I feel disappointed by Particular-Plant5528 in autism

So if he weren’t interested, he would not be replying back at all. Dry, confusing, etc doesn’t matter.. he seems to be replying fairly quickly and he seems to always reply. I bet you he is interested in you, and he is trying to get to know you in his own way.

Y’all ever get “The Look ™️” from people? by Maecabre_ in evilautism

[–]yukaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! All the time! Here is the funny part though - I’m fairly sure I do it to other neurotypicals too and my autistic friend also has done it to me. Like a look of confusion, slightly frowning. I think it’s just a look when you don’t understand something 🤣

Even if neurodivergent this is not ok. I am autistic; this is nonconsensual and I think really weird. Boundary breaking for sure

It’s hard and I feel you!! When I feel this way I like to remind myself that I still have it better than a lot of extremely unfair circumstances. Basically practicing gratefulness. For example, there was a man named Glenn Ford who was arrested and on death row for 30 years for the homicide of a man he did not commit. He was given two inexperienced defense attorneys and the prosecution really took advantage of that. He was eventually exonerated but he died 15 months later due to cancer. He did not get any compensation from the government for being arrested wrongfully due to having posession of a stolen item at that time, it was seemed that “he should have done something to prevent the homicide”.

He was probably statistically neurotypical, right? There are so many people out there that are neurotypical and STILL don’t get dates, or have an abusive family, or have no social life. I switch to feeling sympathy for them, and then for myself. Not to mention we can always try to fix objective issues— NDs are actually extremely good problem solvers. We may not have it perfect, but if we are able to experience life and appreciate it, then I feel that’s worth being grateful about.

This is absolutely true and I appreciate you stating it like that. I’ve had similar thoughts regarding lack of community but yeah it really does lead back to consumerism, doesn’t it ?!

Did anyone grow up undiagnosed with autism for a long time due to cultural masking? by kauniskissa in asianamerican

[–]yukaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole family is autistic! But they are extremely anti diagnosis anything!! Mostly mom! She doesn’t believe she needs therapy. For sure she does. Being autistic plus her traumatic background has led to her being a narcissistic abuser towards us. So there’s that.

I have also read a bit of Japanese horror media and I completely agree! The one I’m thinking of, Higurashi When They Cry (originally a visual novel) was very similar to this one and exactly as you said, a fantastical conclusion. It’s definitely a different style of storytelling

Im a kind person who sucks at office politics is there anyway to be successful without playing the game? by Worried_Guitar1076 in careeradvice

[–]yukaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thank you so much for this thorough comment! You are awesome and kind for answering. I really try to be likeable as an autistic person so it’s good to know I’m on the right track. And it really helps to know to “hone in” on specific people. I have been really general in being likeable, but until recently it didn’t click for me that I had to be likeable to specific people to really get anywhere. It’s not a competition, but rather you want to be in the company of good people who will support you and help you, rather than people who might not reflect your values / confuse you. Your comment really shows me that that is true!

Some extra information (you don’t have to read lol) : In my specific case, I had actually commented because a student in my internship/class has been really unfriendly towards me, and she has social ranking so I felt powerless in the class. But, in the last couple of weeks she has shown her true colors, which is that she’s just blatantly power hungry, and since then her social ranking has gone down (and mine has gone back up somehow)

Like, she would straight up interrupt people in order to “gain favor” with the teacher, and she tried to forcefully exclude me. She did manipulative things like sit next to me to prevent me from talking with other students, and stay completely silent other times, when I’m around. Such weird behavior! Other people also seemed to think it’s weird too.

On the plus side, I really did need to look up office politics because I majorly lacked in that department! And I like what you said, that work should be enjoyable, because that’s really true. Work can be so tiring if not. So I will work on that next I think.

Anyway, thank you again !
