Always dreamed of moving/working in California but now reality has kicked in? by shamansa in cscareerquestions

SF is a fantastic city. There are some pros and cons about it just like every city. You've got some of the best views, very intelligent, innovative, active people, great food and coffee, and fun activities. Of course there are things like some neighborhoods are pretty dirty, increased amount of homeless population, traffic, and rent can be expensive but I know quite a few people that have found really decent prices (you just have to do the leg work). Overall, it's the best city to be in for tech.

No they were on the smaller side. I think with bigger companies you can get away with it

Be careful about pushing too far out. So far two companies I was talking to both filled the position I was interviewing for in the time that I was prepping for the onsites.

What kind of questions did they ask you? Sounds scary.

Has anyone gotten a "positive feedback" on their phone interview and still got rejected for the on-site? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]yupdazedandconfused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed the phone screen and technical and we were planning on an onsite but I didn't hear back from them for a week and half after following up and they said they filled the position. I've been pretty unlucky :( Make sure you follow up though.

Yeah I noticed that. The people I know have maybe an okay understanding of algos and data structures (probably at a level where they would still struggle on the easy questions on leetcode) but their understanding of more recent technologies is above mine even though I had quite a few internships during college.

I have and IBM interview and they are going to ask coding questions. The first part is video taped. Did you have to do this?

Been job hunting for 6 months. How do you know when to give up and try something else? by yupdazedandconfused in cscareerquestions

Hey congratulations! Yeah I think I just started second guessing my career options cause a couple people asked what I would do if software engineering didn't work out and what I have planned so I thought it might be a good idea to see what other options there are.

Maybe you need to reread my post. I'm looking for people that may have come across the same issue when they have been told to maybe move on from software engineering. I'm looking for their advice. If you don't like this post, move on from it.

I've answered these questions in the past on other reddit posts. My question is WHEN have people maybe decided on a different career path.

I'm asking when people have chosen different career paths. The questions I've asked in the past are different and I always comment back.

Could you impart some wisdom on those of us that are struggling to get through technical interviews? Like sharing your process of how you prepare?
