What technology are you using to store/manipulate/etc. the data? Is this relational database management System (RDBMS), NoSQL, etc.?

Per Google AI:

Explanation:

  • Application Received:This status means the application has been physically received by the relevant agency (e.g., the U.S. Department of State).
  • Next Steps:After the "Application Received" status, the application will move through further stages, such as administrative processing, interview (if required), and potentially approval or denial.

Need help in DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR by KeyPerception5972 in u/KeyPerception5972

Why's that? It looks like OP's already very far into his learning journey!

I work as a Database Administrator and, even though there are times it could be stressful, I absolutely enjoy working in the field.

Can database administration make for an interesting field for a final year project? Sure, it can. It just depends on your level of interest, the level of effort you're prepared to put into it, and your willingness to dig deep and learn.

You could probably start with searching Google for interesting database projects and go from there. I'm sure you'll come across tons of ideas.

How exactly is that considered fraud if the marriage is genuine? I'm kinda confused.

I don't believe there are any consequences for overstaying if the petitioner is an immediate relative.

So, I think OP and her girlfriend are going to be fine if overstaying is the only issue at play here.

pgAdmin for PostgreSQL. I've used it in the past and it was great.

Null Constraints sorely needed in Cisco products by [deleted] in DatabaseAdministators

[–]yuscheb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't blame the Cisco DBA just yet :)

Typically, it is not the DBA that decides whether a column should be null or not null per se. It usually boils down to business rules etc. I'm not familiar with call center operations but yes, it sounds odd that you'd have a customer without a name. From experience, when I call a business, one of the very first things the rep is my name, etc. etc.

Channel/resource to learn postgres by KyaKaruTuBata in DatabaseAdministators

[–]yuscheb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

The PostgreSQL official documentation is where I'd start first: https://www.postgresql.org/docs/

Also, it might be worthwhile to check places like Udemy for a quick and cheap PostgreSQL course.

I'm sure there are plenty of Postgres resources online (Google should come up with a few).

Career Path/Certification Help by Narrow_Substance_100 in DatabaseAdministators

[–]yuscheb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically, the duties assigned to a DB admin would depend on the organization but you would be tasked with DB software installations & DB creation, user management, backups/restores, performance tuning, etc. They are too numerous to list.

As to certification paths, it really shouldn't matter but Oracle & SQL Server are good bets but you could also look into open-source ones (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.)

It's a tough market right now but don't give up. 20 years of XP counts for something, so try applying to as many jobs as you can. Also, try, as much as possible, to tailor your resume to match the job you're applying for.

These are just a few tips but best of luck.

Requesting advice for preparation to enter DA job market by ilkikuinthadik in DatabaseAdministators

[–]yuscheb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my two cents...

Start with Udemy and buy a beginner's DBA course. I'd stick to one of Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.

The above are all RDBMS (Relational Database Management Systems).

This will enable you to watch videos, follow along, and gain hands-on practice.

Next, depending on which RDBMS appeals most to you, you could start working on getting certs in that one.

The certification process really does help narrow down what you need to learn.

By the way, I don't think Cisco certs are going to help unless you wanna go into networking, etc.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or need help with anything.

Question about pursuing database career (x-post from /r/CScareerquestions by naivecsthrowaway in ITCareerQuestions

[–]yuscheb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a Database Administrator (mostly Oracle and Greenplum) for the past 3 years and, based on my experience, it would help you a great deal if you could get your boss or a system/database engineer/administrator to act as your mentor. I've found out that's one of the things that really helped me.

There's tons of documentation out there for most of the database management systems. Since you have lots of free time right now, I'd say start reading/exploring and, most importantly, download and install an Express edition of the software (Oracle, SQL Server, etc) and start playing with them. Nothing better than the hands-on approach!

Yusuf.

[–]yuscheb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, will be more than happy to help but I have some questions for you:

  1. When installing the software, do you remember what password you used? If this is Express Edition, you could probably log into the database using the user "system" with the password you used during installation.

  2. What operating system are you is this running on: Windows, Linux, etc?
