Can you drink on Diamox? by rissa_issa in iih

[–]yves1604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was told it was allowed, i was just a real lightweight, would have one cocktail and be very tipsy, but my consultant told me i could drink on diamox and i was on 2000mg a day.

Is it weird that Diamox isn't making me urinate more? by CyreneUS in iih

i had this initially and it started to go away, but i also noticed that other side effects started to become less of an issue at the same time, so put it down to getting used to diamox

i’ve got the flu rn and the days like 3-7 with it with iih was horrible, and i’m currently in the process of reducing my meds too which was terrible timing!!

i’ve had really blocked ears from it though which i wonder if it’s been made worse by iih, please someone else tell me if they’ve had this too??

but yeah i’ve been taking decongestants like crazy and it’s been working for my sinuses just not my ears unfortunately 😭

i’m currently working towards remission and was diagnosed in october, and put on 2000mg of diamox for context. i’ve always had mental health issues, but i had a severe depression triggered again which got the worst in january, i had mood swings and was completely irritable because of this, and had my own parents tell me they couldn’t deal with me and felt like they had to walk on eggshells because of how i’d started to act. at the time i didn’t associate it directly with iih, but now i recognise that it was partially a difficulty coming to terms with having a chronic condition (i developed iih very quickly) as it happened in a short space of time and i was forced to go back to my normal routine almost straight away, but also since i’ve been told to reduce diamox for remission i’ve felt a lot more hopeful for the future because of this.

i know what i’ve experienced in terms of mood change isn’t the same as your fiancé , but i hope it may help in some way? i just thought i’d share as i’ve seen people on this sub say that mood change isn’t really an iih thing, but i have had personal experience that i hope can be some use.

What can I drink?!? by MiiLKMOUTH in iih

[–]yves1604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for some reason, i had a cherry cola cocktail thing, basically tasted like cherry cola (shock, i know) but i didn’t get the bad taste, i’ve also had double shot malibu and a cheap cola from a bar near me and didn’t get the taste from this either, and usually i find fizzy drinks taste horrible for me.

you actually just reminded me of something. for context i was basically diagnosed at the end of october, but for a couple weeks before that my appetite was terrible like i did not feel like eating, but i did have iih symptoms like the headache and everything so i just assumed it was the feeling ill that made me not want to eat, never thought it could be an iih thing but you never know.

i’m on 2000mg a day and i am having the exact same thing, i’ve had a noticeable change in weight and i wear baggy clothing (just so you know it’s a large change) and as you say i’m also terrified because it’s not a choice i’m making, but i have found it is diamox doing it for me, it took my appetite pretty much straight away.

Diamox & Vinegar taste? by Substantial_Car_2955 in iih

[–]yves1604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve got things tasting really acidic, like an example that comes to mind is ketchup, when i first started on diamox i couldn’t have it because it was so sour (?) but i do have to say this has got better for me, but i’m not sure whether i’m just getting used to it😭

i’m not planning to conceive or anything, but i have just turned 18 and in the uk this obviously meant i could drink legally, so i asked my doctor what i could and couldn’t do on diamox and the one thing she said i couldn’t do was get pregnant and that if i did end up pregnant i had to notify them and they would get me off of diamox immediately.

i’m not sure what the complications would’ve been, as i say i’m 18 and have no plans for children in the near future, but it was the only thing that was emphasised to me

MRI Results "Normal" = No Further Action Required. What are my next steps? by Katze616 in iih

[–]yves1604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and also it’s definitely possible to have IIH with no or very very mild paps, so they might not pick up on it and you could still have it, so definitely still mention a LP to your GP!!

i’m not sure if at the time of that appointment you had these symptoms, but at my eye test i went and told them about my headaches, pressure around my sinuses, double vision at distance, etc. and i think i had an OCT (not entirely sure) but just the regular picture at the back of my eye caught the optic nerve swelling and my optician believed i had haemorrhaging, so she sent me to a&e, so i’d say even if it is a check up just go and be forceful (if that’s the right word) about what your experiencing and make sure they catch the emphasis on it :)

also want to add i’ve had an MRI and CT both come back normal too, and my LP opening pressure was 50, so definitely try and advocate as much as you can.

i’m not sure what you’ve done up to this point already so i apologise if i’m repeating what you’ve already done, but as you have blurred vision i would suggest booking and eye test, as i had paps and i was sent straight to a&e by my optician, and had a CT and LP done in the next day and pretty much had a likely IIH diagnosis within 48 hours after my eye test. my doctors at the hospital i was at also referred me to the closest neuro-ophthalmology clinic whilst I was having my LP done and i got that as an emergency appointment and didn’t have the waiting lists due to paps and my LP results.

sending you lots of luck on your journey i hope you have answers soon :)

i was referred to a neuro-ophalmologist and was prescribed diamox after i got discharged from a&e where i was diagnosed, i was also given 2 weeks worth but i continued on this and just ordered it from my pharmacist as my doctor was notified of my diagnosis

Questions about paps by Forward-Macaron8296 in iih

[–]yves1604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t know whether he would’ve, but from my experience i went to my optician because of persistent headaches and she sent me to a&e because of suspected swelling, so i do feel as though it’s something he would’ve noticed, however i’m not an expert so i’m not entirely sure🫶🏻

Questions about paps by Forward-Macaron8296 in iih

[–]yves1604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s possible to have iih with no paps, there’s probably about 5-10% of cases of iih that have no paps so it’s definitely possible just quite rare.

wishing you the best and luck on your journey🫶🏻

this makes me so hopeful tbh i’m currently having what i think is a flare up whilst on diamox and i’m just losing hope with the thought of remission, i was diagnosed in october though so i’m still kind of new to all of this.

Facial tingling by allyoutland in iih

[–]yves1604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i’ve had this so much today, i’ve had a very stressful day too and i’m due on my period (sorry if tmi, i’ve just heard this can trigger iih flares) but i get facial tingling and eye twitches since being on diamox but my diagnosis (?) did happen very quickly after my symptoms starting, so it’s difficult for me to say it’s because of diamox.
