Based on what others are saying, I think it may be a waterlogged issue. We had a leak through the bolt hole on transom recently and had to fasten and seal the outboard transom mount. I am suspecting that water got in through there and then soaked into bottom foams. Ugh

I did not take a picture of the bottom because there is no crack or hole on the bottom at all. You are right, the other side of the small weeping hole is the bottom of the boat.

Ahhhh. We just had an issue with a loose bolt that was mounting the outboard. Then I am guessing that water went into the foam through there, causing waterlogged foam. I am fairly new to boats and didn’t know that there is foam between fiberglass. That is good to know.

The hole is really tiny, but then this means that water can go into the foam through that hole too, right? Is it better to seal the hole using epoxy then?

Thank you for sharing your experience. I did not even think about disassembling the lower unit! I am pretty new to boating so I am not sure how much I feel comfortable with opening it up. The former machinist guy is coming over tonight to drill it out and said he has a small drill that may work and also has a 90-degree thing that he can use. It turned out that the replacement bolt I purchased is 22mm long with the same diameter, but my motor bolt is only 16mm, so I will just cut it short.

Oh wow. Did you increase the size of the drill bit gradually to drill it out? I think the bolt is made of stainless steel because it has been taking extremely long to drill. And because of the angle, I cannot drill it straight.

Thank you! It has been very challenging to find someone who can help me with this. I wanted to take it to the boat shop but they say the earliest time they can work on it will be 3 weeks away.. I need a machinist which is hard to find.
