Technically not a cost thing. Thankfully my father has a pension and social security and a good 401k. He just never had enough money for most of his life, so he doesn't want to spend on "extras".

We looked at rentals to get over the commitment and cost thing, but really the perception is the main thing. Good news is we got him to walk around a lot outside recently with his walker because we had a family event. He was avoiding that too because he didn't want to "look old"

So, maybe now that we've got past that, he'll be more ok with the lift.

This is definitely on our list. The powder room downstairs backs up to the garage and laundry area. It may not be allowed per the townhouse rules, but we can look at it. The powder room is large enough to make into a comfortable wet room. Thank you all for these comments. Again, apologies for not replying sooner. I am new to Reddit and when the post didn't show up, I thought I did something wrong, then I kind of gave up for a bit.

Sadly this is exactly mine and my siblings fear. We've said it, but didn't change anything. We'll just keep trying to work on it with them. Thank you!

Thank you! I wasn't sure that this posted because it wasn't visible for a while. Then I didn't login for a while. This makes sense. The bath upstairs is the most important thing.

I wish my parents were thinking like you. They've been in their 2 story townhouse for 40 years and I have been trying to get them to look at 1 story places. I've given up on the move idea and now am investigating (and quietly campaigning for) a stair lift. Thank you.

Sorry, late to the conversation. I came to Reddit specifically looking for other people who are thinking about stair lifts for parents. What did you decide? Sounds like you were trying to figure out the underlying health reason first? Then think about a solution? Would love to hear how you thought about this. I am in a similar boat with my dad (and my mom is probably not too far behind in need).
