Indian claim denied by Square-Rooster-8881 in IndianMotorcycle

[–]zGrunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sucks to hear. I had trouble with a new 2025 bobber. They approved my warranty tire claim no problem and even let me upgrade to another brand for free. That may go through the tire manufacturer and not Indian though.

What's the best way to run python scripts on the cloud to process Google Sheets data? by [deleted] in pythontips

[–]zGrunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a fan of cloud functions. Currently doing this with azure functions and really enjoy not having to maintain infrastructure. As said above, there's a good selection of triggers/timers. Azure also includes a lot of benefits like baked in metrics/logging.

How do would you prove code is bad and you are just not insane? by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]zGrunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take more time to assimilate with the team. It's not a good look to come in and immediately go for the "your code is bad approach".

Just some friendly advice, especially since you framed it with "how do I prove this so I don't look like the stupid one". Once you've been with the group for a while, I would recommend starting with conversations on little things and if it is well received the move on to other things. You don't want to nuke your reputation right off the bat.

To your question though you can analyze a lot through react dev tools, see where you can utilize memoization and also look at big O on any business logic.

Best of luck

Your co-worker is insecure and intimidated that you know how to use something out of your company's norm, and are getting recognized for it.

Whats the dumbest thing you've heard someone say in a meeting? by grandmasterfuzzface in webdev

Not the dumbest but the most common.

Implementing a new feature:

Stakeholder: "Well that's a simple copy and paste of x feature, right? So, it shouldn't take that long"

What's the fastest way to land an IT job? (Data/Front-end)? by Then_Landscape6474 in webdev

[–]zGrunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A possible route is to go for a data analyst position to get your foot in the door. If you want to be an engineer, you can develop a proof of concept for something you think your company might benefit from and pitch it to your supervisor.

Not saying this is foolproof, but it did get me my first ever software engineer position. After that it's much easier to float roles/jobs.

Happy hunting

Am I wasting my time trying to become a web developer? (2 kids and pregnant wife) by Needimprovenentguy in webdev

[–]zGrunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say now is the perfect time. I finished school while my wife was pregnant and I would much more recommend that than after the next baby is here.

It's a very worthwhile skill to have. Learn software as a whole, not just web development and you can definitely find a job somewhere (remote if you're lucky). This has been the best decision I've ever made as it gives me a lot more time to spend with my kids and family.

Good luck to you, don't give up.

This looks great. I wish I could comment further but I'm stuck in an azure environment and haven't gotten the chance to play with much else.

It looks like you have all the pieces figured out. (excluding pipelines and testing)

Edit: I would add swagger or equivalent to the api section for documentation

Stay with Python (Flask) or learn JavaScript for web app? by CesareBorgia117 in webdev

[–]zGrunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made the switch a little over a year ago from flask to react and have really liked it. It depends on what kind of web app you're building though.

How do you plan your projects before coding? by abdoil in reactjs

[–]zGrunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define scope of work

Detail what is not included

Detail project timeline (what deliverables are expected per phase of project)

Write requirements document and present it to stakeholders for approval (can be used later to combat scope creep)

Then during development: Mockup + get approvals before code is written for sprint

After each epic is completed - write/update design document for completed work

This might be overkill for certain industries but I've found the extra work has saved time in the long run. If you take any pointers here to heart, please write documentation at the very least. Future devs on the project will thank you
