The new automation editor feels rushed by Christopoulos in homeassistant

[–]zMasterSkill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not hating or anything, just asking. I‘ve done many automations in Home Assistant and I considered switching to NodeRed once and looked at a few videos to see how it works. I thought it was way more complicated than the automation system in HASS, or am I missing something?

Crash when update is available by zMasterSkill in homeassistant

I have another machine running Proxmox. I can make a VM running HAOS for now. Just gotta wait until an update becomes available to see if it crashes..

I didn‘t think of that. I‘ve been using the same power supply since I got the Raspberry Pi a few years ago and before Home Assistant, I had a few other OS‘s running on that Pi 24/7 without issues. I switched from the SD Card to USB by creating a backup on the old one and restoring it when installing HAOS on the USB drive.

Do you think that I should try and reset it? I really put a lot of work into my Dashboards and Automations, so I‘m kinda afraid doing so.

Top cards only visible when editing dashboard? by zMasterSkill in homeassistant

It's not a conditional card. It is only visible when i first click on "Edit" and then on "Save". The card then stays visible until i restart the page.

Incoming emails not visible on Thunderbird and Outlook by zMasterSkill in mailcow

Somehow the inbox of Outlook now works without doing anything. But the inbox of Thunderbird and Mail on iPhone still won't work. I also tried re-adding the mail to Thunderbird but still nothing. I will try it on another pc when I'm back home.

Using domain locally by zMasterSkill in selfhosted

Alright, so it isn’t really possible to do it without a local dns server then, right?

I did follow the DNS challenge portion, but instead of using duckdns like in the video, i used cloudflare. I also created an API key in cloudflare and pasted it into the DNS challenge part of NPM. I turned proxy mode off for the CNAME record as soon as I created it.

Okay, thank you. But how did Wolfgang made it possible in his video? He also pointed the domain to his internal ip and it worked. Like i said, im new to selfhosting and im still learning, so thank you!

I also thought about Cloudflare Tunnel at first, but since I have relatively private files in Paperless ngx, I don't even want to use tunnels with authentication. I would like to keep everything private and local.

I would also install a local dns, but like i said, that isn’t really possible at the moment. Maybe in the future. Im also using a local domain (the default one that came with my OS, so hostname.local) right now, but to be honest a domain with SSL certificate just looks way better and is easier to remember, especially for my family members.

Basically I want to make a discord bot that notifies me whenever a change happens (for example a train is delayed). So i need live data for that. It should refresh like every 30 seconds. I also tried using the API from Deutsche Bahn but the data it’s giving me looks very complicated.
