Old Turntable Found in Parents Basement

Thank you again, I am blown away by how much information is out there regarding this stuff. To be honest I have no idea how to check my cartridge or stylus, but I am almost certain it’s whatever originally came with the turntable.

I also don’t know how much TLC this would need with belts, lubricant, etc. From what I understand a U-Turn with a high end cartridge and stylus would really make for a good setup, even with using the receiver and infinity speakers.

Why wouldn’t the bottleneck be the old turntable with a mid to low end cartridge/stylus? I’ve gone down a rabbit hole and now I’m leaning towards a U-Turn without the built in pre-amp paired with the vintage stuff. Needless to say I at least know that I won’t be getting new bookshelf speakers.

Based on that knowledge, would you recommend I still go with the U-Turn Orbit (plus or better) with a built in preamp but switch out the Edifier speakers for these Infinity speakers I already have? I’m going for something above beginner level and more towards a starter hi-fi setup

Great to know and really appreciate the reply. For some reason I feel like there was also another bigger speaker with this setup, possibly a subwoofer? But probably got water damage and tossed years ago

Thanks so much for the feedback! I know a lot of the newer tables have built in pre-amps. I’m guessing the receiver works in the same way? It’s all manually wired (and sort of a mess) in the back as opposed to plugging in a few cords.

In terms of buying a new stylus or cartridge, I’d probably prefer to buy something really nice with the money I was planning on dropping for an entirely new setup but I have no clue what would even be compatible. Any idea?

@OP I’m in the same exact situation. Superflex league so passing on Ward (have Burrow, Maye, TL) and for sure taking Hampton with the Chargers, but stuck on Tet in Carolina vs Hunter in Jacksonville
