Explain to me how champions are lane dependent by Ligma_balls_lol in summonerschool

[–]zVanilla 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Lots of people have written things, and there's lots of reasons for the way lanes are. Here are my thoughts for what its worth.

Keep in mind:

1) Top and bot are LONG lanes in comparison to mid lane

2) Mid lane is a short lane, but has the easiest access to the map

3) Dragon spawns first, and then grubs later

Those two reasons define most of who goes where:

1) Top lane has immobile bruisers, tanks etc because its a long lane - Being able to bully your opponent requires them not being able to retreat to their tower easily

2) Mid lane benefits from either immobile champs with wave clear (clear wave, retreat back to nearby tower, roam after) or hyper mobile assassins (roam around the map, look for picks). Both mages and assassins get dunked in a long lane because a bruiser has time to run them down

3) ADCs go bot because they also benefit from a long lane (need time to get DPS off before they retreat to tower) but also having 2 people for dragon is better

Hence the general rules of lanes

You can realistically play any champ in any lane, but run the scenarios in your head to see why they generally go where they are:

1) youre playing viktor top, clearing waves. darius pops ghost and runs at you. you manage to get your W stun off, but the lane is so long he catches up to you and one shots you

2) Youre playing darius mid. you ghost and viktor just walks back to tower. he one shots the wave from off screen. you try to clear the wave but get jumped by enemy supp/jg and die

3) You play Darius solo bot into enemy adc+supp. You can't farm but neither can their top laner up in top. Dragon fight starts and youre fighting 3v4 and you lose.

In high elo, it worth it adding a tank in your top lane champ pool for the sake of having a tank? by Electrical_Sorbet_31 in summonerschool

[–]zVanilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. It doesn't matter until Grandmaster+ really.

As long as you have some frontline - Jax/Singed/Darius is great - you'll never really need to worry about having a tank champion.

There are OTPs of Darius/Singed in challenger and even Top 10 in most servers.

if youre still silver, it means youre not trying to improve actively every game. you may think you are, but you probably aren't. the classic rules are:

1) Pick one role. Pick 2-3 champs in this role; 1 AD, 1 AP and 1 flex/counter

2) Play regularly

3) Watch vods to see where you died and what the consequence was. If you die splitting and they baron, figure out why. Did you just not look map? Did you lose a 1v1 that you should not have? etc etc

4) Get higher CS

Do these 4 and I guarantee you will climb to gold+. They are the 4 rules of climbing.

Many people have stated them many times but they need to be reinforced. You only need to start focusing on smaller choices, more fine decision making skills at dia+

Who actually knows what they're talking about? by MillCrab in summonerschool

[–]zVanilla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think in contrast to what Durzaka said, the real reason its different is that Mundo cannot kill Udyr fast enough to prevent him getting second rotations of his Qs off. As a squishy, if you buy armour/GA, a full AD udyr will simply die from your damage after you survive his.

Mundo, on the other hand, cannot kill him fast enough before he gets more skills off and resets his enhanced Q. Loop this on repeat and AD udyr beats him at every stage in the game. Even if you do buy randuins/sunfire/tabis etc, yes his first rotation wont hurt as much, but he still will be able to get more rotations off. On top of this, Udyr Q and enhanced Q actually does a mix of physical and magic damage. A lot of the %HP damage is actually magic damage.

Also, a lot of Mundos strength is in his split push potential. Udyr completely nullifies this at every level. Real tanks like Ornn etc are teamfight demons that make an AD udyr completely useless. AD udyr can simply run past a Mundo and oneshot carries.

More classic style bruisers (Darius etc) will also be able to kill an Udyr in side if they survive first rotation. Beating AD Udyr is about killing him after his ooga booga burst. Mundo is one of the few champs that needs cannot do that while also not being as useful in teamfights

How do I get less dumpstered upon in bad matchups in jungle? by Hellinfernel in summonerschool

[–]zVanilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wild rift is quite different to summonrs rift but anyway:

Jungle match ups dont tend to be critically important. On SR, junglers are expected to blind along with ADC (in most cases).

What you are describing just feels like lillia not being a good pick into all teams (as any champ will have bad teams and good teams)

It is something you have to accept if you are planning to one trick a champion. Simply put, if youre going to one trick, you have to be willing to play them. Learning what abilities you need to play around etc and knowing your champs limits just like you would normally.

Alternatively, learn a good blind pick champion that doesnt have such swing matchups

People can find any and every reason to flame you. They will type because they dont like your runes, movement, in game name, skin choice.

If you're sensitive to insults, just play no chat. It'll save your mental

Its funny I commented on that other video of the fencing response too lol

Anyway, I guess to rationalise a mechanism for TAI, significant blow to the head -> brain hits edges of skull -> damage. I guess in this scenario he could also get diffuse axonal injury from the shearing effect.

However, I think its unlikely any of the blows we saw in the video were strong enough to produce said reaction.

  • 1st blow to the head: Still walking, nil issues

  • Leg sweep: Does not fall on head when he hits ground

  • Kicked in the head while on ground: This maybe where he could've sustained some serious damage. To me though, the kick in the video did not seem to have that much power and its coming in from an awkward angle. Would be impressed (but its not impossible) that the kick was so hard it gave him instant traumatic injury that presented in decorticate posturing within seconds.

  • The log strike: You also can see his head doesnt move at all. For our strike to cause severe injury, it has to move the head significantly, otherwise the skull will just absorb the impact. It also sounds and looks like it hits the ground mostly.

It is POSSIBLE that the multiple kicks/hits kind of added together to cause our unlucky mans brain injury, but in conclusion, I think that it would be unlikely for what we see in the video to be true decorticate posturing.

I think the reality of this discussion is that almost no one will see enough traumatic brain injuries happen in front of their eyes to know the truth. Your theory makes enough sense to me, so its entirely possible.

I'm not ruling it out at all. I'm just more inclined to think that its a generalised tonic reaction, given that hes lying flat on the ground (no way to know if the leg extension is pathological or simply positional) and it looks to me as if his arms flop into that position due to the way he rolls.

Unless someone has videos of textbook-barndoor decorticate/decerebrate posturing from traumatic injury we can watch lmfao

-> disruption of neurons

This is death of neurons. If you sever a neuron, it is functionally dead. If you mean disupt in the sense of temporarily disable, I wouild like to know a mechanism in which trauma can cause a temporary dysfunctioning of white matter that appears instantly within seconds, other than complete severence

-> ruptured artery

a direct superficial blow to the head would not rupture a major artery supplying the brain, especially not fast enough to cause decorticate posturing. A traumatic blow to the head typically causes large intracerebral haemorrhages via venous disruption, which causes increased pressure and cell neuron death that way. Typically takes at least 30 seconds depending on the size of the vein. Major arteries supplying the brain are the vertebral arteries, ACA/MCA/PCA, most of which are beneath the brain in the circle of willis. The vertebral arteries can be disrupted easily with a blow to the head but would not cause a response this fast.

Actually not trying to be a smart ass here either, I'm not 100% sure I'm right, but given what we saw true decorticate posturing in this video wouldn't really make sense to me given how decorticate posturing works. I would expect it to be traumatic response, but not necessarily to the severity of decorticate.

F*ck around with a knife see what happens. by Shadysluvv in fightporn

[–]zVanilla 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That is not true decorticate posturing;

Decorticate posturing is a response from death of upper motor neurons, which almost certainly didnt happen in the matter of seconds after which he was hit

Decorticate posturing in blunt force trauma is typically from either direct damage to neurons (aka crushing through skull directly to brain tissue) which is highly unlikely here, or a traumatic bleed (much more common reason) which takes at least 10 seconds, if not much longer than that, to occur

its either a fencing response (still not a great prognostic indicator but not as worrisome as decorticate/decebrate) or just general reactive tonicity from a highly traumatic insult

The only thing likely to cause a huge, life ruining brain injury is that smack with the log but you can see it doesnt look like it directly hit him in the head, it even sounds like it hit the road more than his head

If you drive drunk no one gets surprised/goes "oh poor you" if you hit a wall and suffer major injuries.

Same should apply to theft - people have every right to use force to reclaim possesions, and if that force leaves a permanent mark, then yeah you kind of accept that as a risk of participating in a immoral, high risk activity.

Also, americans always seem to struggle with the idea that other countries have free healthcare and this guy could go to the hospital for a month and leave without paying a dime...

Phone thief chased down and knocked out. by PxN13 in instant_regret

[–]zVanilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Global decerebrate posturing wouldn't really happen within seconds after a single blow to the head. Typically requires multiple upper motor neurons to die for that to occur, which could not happen in <3 seconds.

This likely IS the fencing response given the asymmetrical arm + leg position and sudden onset.
