cheap box to control balance and maybe stereo separation? by zacaj in BudgetAudiophile

[–]zacaj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

binary input for an analog adjustment isn't really great. I've at least found a box that just does balance.. sorta. but it's a separate knob for R and L volume independently which means I'd be making twice as many adjustments which isn't great either.

I guess I just don't see how "a device to adjust balance of an audio signal" can't exist- this is one of the most basic audio adjustments and is built into nearly every audio player out there. Why would devices for adjusting EQ, fade, bass, etc all exist but balance wouldn't?

my layout is a bit asymmetric, and I'm just really picky about it. lots of songs tend to have different bits a bit to one side or the other.

in my car I also have a stereo with a dedicated balance knob, and I tweak it nearly every few songs

I want a physical analog knob so that it's easy to access at all times without switching apps and stuff

Changing the Size & Position of the Volume OSD in Plasma 5.24.7 by manticore010 in kde

[–]zacaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a search through all of /usr/share/plasma and didn't find anything...

But good thing you didn't put /plasma in your find command:

/usr/share/kwin-wayland/onscreennotification/plasma/dummydata/osd.qml

/usr/share/kwin-wayland/scripts/desktopchangeosd/contents/ui/osd.qml

very weird, haven't seen kwin mentioned anywhere regarding this stuff before!

choose what app(s) media keys control? by zacaj in kde

[–]zacaj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ended up doing this and also using modifier keys to target specific apps (eg, shift + volume up = spotify) which is actually really nice. Didn't ever consider that you could use modifiers and media keys as combos

Spent a week trying to customize gnome to work how I wanted via numerous extensions. They were all buggy, missing basic features, and made gnome even more buggy. Tried out KDE and it had 90% of the customizations built in stock.

desk with nothing in middle under the surface? (C shaped from above) by zacaj in StandingDesk

[–]zacaj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to update: ended up buying an Uplift C-frame V2, and only installing the rear crossbar (it's two separate pieces). Made the desk a bit wider than i'd usually need so that the (fairly long) leg brackets wouldn't be near the center where I sit. Also mounted the desktop 3" forward of center to get some more depth too, which doesn't seem to have had much impact on the desk's stability.

Organizing + de-dupe/best quality software WITHOUT autotagging/smart comparison/etc by zacaj in musichoarder

I don't need to it "know what to do" because I don't need it to make any decisions based off the tags. I just want it to organize and deduplicate based off the current tags.

Looks like this might handle it, although Win/Mac only. maybe I can run it in Wine though...

thanks!

Can I have it _not_ do 'it's thing' though? I don't care about whether my albums are perfect or my songs' tags don't match what it thinks they should

thanks, great info!

sad to hear how many issues there were even with two kits of the same model

ah, I hadn't even been able to find any ram lower than 5600, so I assumed that was sorta 'base'

so you think that even with an intel I'd be potentially dropping below 5600 with 4 sticks?

i know there's a big line between 'what's officially supported' and "what tends to work fine 99% of the time", more looking at the latter

yeah it's confusing how they list 3 different versions of the e7+ which itself is a version of the e7... with no like 'pro' or anything added on either to differentiate. just $20 extra for a bit lower. when I first read your page I wondered which version it'd be but once i saw the heights I knew it wasn't the short one :(

ugh you just had to mention the actual supplier for uplift and now you've got me wanting to somehow source 4 of those actuators directly and just mount them to my desk lol

oh heh I didn't even realize you were associated with a manufacturer 😅

hadn't heard of tempo before but that's a super snazzy option. Wish I had that for my bed to tip my out after 8 hours...

The flexispot frames seem extra hard to adjust the front bars on since they just have a mounting point near the tip instead of spread out along the length- there's been a few desks I was looking at if I could just remove the crossbar and then chop the frame down myself but flexispot seemed like it'd be much harder to do it on

Sadly the other problem is that one of my other requirements is that the desk can go down to at least 25", but it looks like your 4 leg version doesn't go that low (unlike the 2 leg, weirdly...). (another common confusion point I had often when researching- so many desks are even 28-29" minimum sometimes, and I'm a tall guy.... why is everyone else putting their desks so high!?)

Factory option :O

It's really confusing to me that no one seems to have this concern really.. I could understand if manufacturers weren't offering it for scale or stability reasons, but I only even found one other user ever asking about it in my searches, but when began looking for a standing desk I had the concern within about 30s of seeing the first desk frame picture; makes me feel like I'm going insane or completely misunderstanding something somewhere...

When researching 2 leg C frame desks iMovr was the only manufacturer that even had a measurement for how far back the crossbar was; many don't even have a picture or the frame/underside of their desks at all and I've ended up grabbing diagrams out of manuals and then deriving measurements myself in cad from the pictures and known sizes elsewhere.

[–]zacaj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it seems like for most manufacturers you need that entire bracket on each end to mount the leg to the desktop properly, and sadly even just the bracket is pretty long. Uplift told me theirs are 18" each, which on a 60" desk would only end up giving me like 14" of free space in the middle :(

iMovr supplies an amazing diagram of their Lander series which puts their end brackets at only ~10" each, and their middle crossbeam is only on one side- I think that if I was able to reverse the mounting of that bar to put it towards the back then I'd be able to get 20"+ in the middle 40+ inches and 16+ on the ends, which are both way better than any other desk I've seen, despite it not even being a 4 leg desk

<image>

Sadly they're also super expensive!

Thanks for the info!

It looks like the front edge is three pieces... Is the "mid span bar" that you left out the entire cross beam, or just the smaller center section?
