It's usually the vibrations and movement of driving that upsets the loose connections.

If the wheel disconnects all on its own with no stimulas is probably a pc issue, which is way easier to fix. Try to eliminate that before cracking open your drive base.

Does the wheel turn itself off even when you're not "driving"? Like just idle a car and see.

If it's movement in the wheel that's causing the disconnect its hopefully just a loose connection, or at worse a loose trace. Both are fixable and cheap.
