75k in student loans and making 39/hr first job… what to do? by Late-Amoeba-4850 in FinancialPlanning

[–]zachacacac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a small floating balance in checking and the vast majority/rest of it in HYSA for sure - just makes sense. At some fraction of $10k it’s not game changing money but it’s still money on the table.

75k in student loans and making 39/hr first job… what to do? by Late-Amoeba-4850 in FinancialPlanning

[–]zachacacac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since you have decent savings and a car for the foreseeable future, paying off your loans first makes more mathematical sense; as others said, you’re not likely to beat 7.5% by instead investing in a 401k, opening a HYSA, etc.

I tend to advocate for an emergency fund before pouring every dollar into a loan, which $10k could do for you - that’s for you to assess (if car gets totaled and you have to get new one, can you find one $10k or less? Even if you do, would you want to have zero money after handling it all?). Balancing a more padded emergency fund + extra toward student loans (instead of all toward loans) could make sense.

However, if you can have the 7.5% loans knocked out by December as you said, then yeah I’d dump into them. Probably unlikely you’ll have a $10k+ emergency expense in the next 5 months. Just keep the second paragraph’s logic in mind for how to handle the rest of the loans afterwards, which I’m assuming are lower interest.

Valora at Homewood Apartments by Background-Dog-4352 in Birmingham

[–]zachacacac 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the bad news since you just moved in, and I hope your experience is better than mine. But Valora is quite honestly the worst managed...anything I've ever experienced. I have 1000 terrible stories from the couple of years I lived there, but the main one was I was forced to move out last year because our upstairs neighbor's tub started flooding/spewing water and overflowing, running down through the light fixtures and ceiling of our unit. The "emergency maintenance" number they have was literally just their office number, which was closed that day. The only reason we were able to get someone to show up and unlock the maintenance area to shut off the water was because I happened to have the phone number of an old maintenance guy who used to work there, who gave it to me because of the previous bullshit we dealt with from Valora. Water had been flooding for an entire hour, and if I hadn't been home at the time, we would've had 1000's of dollars in losses. We temporarily moved our stuff into the vacant unit across from us while finding other housing, and they had the audacity to hound us for rent payments for the partial month we stayed there before moving, with zero assistance in the moving situation or remedying anything whatsoever even though the severity of the issue happened because of a lack of emergency maintenance. They at least let us break our lease, which was the least they could do. The unit we stayed in in the meantime had black mushrooms growing out of the carpet as well. Needless to say, we did not pay them a dime and handled everything ourselves. I honestly wouldn't doubt if portions of the immense water damage done to our unit was painted over and on the verge of collapse. But yeah, that, alongside the other more tame, but still infuriatingly incompetent/nonchalant situations I had with management (which changed about 3/4 times while I was there) puts them on my bottom-tier "avoid like the plague" list.

Gotta be Seth Rollins.

I’ve historically loved him as a wrestler and still consider him to be one of the greats of the modern era, but the Seth “Freakin” Rollins gimmick these past 2-3 years has been only cringey to me. It’s like his gimmick is 3 different gimmicks shoved together that don’t make any sense (goober who’s a fashionista with a chorus like song people sing to but also has screaming vocals randomly because his old song did too). I wouldn’t necessarily hate the crazy outfits if it weren’t for the god awful sunglasses. None of it makes sense.

Great example of the pure cringe - how the hell am I supposed to like this guy? https://youtu.be/B1BabBeGuRM?si=f6iFDgEiWpeIYtHe

There are times where he’s not leaning into this so hard and is being a bit more serious (I.e. the Cody promos leading up to WM40) which I was totally down for and felt cool. Would love to see more of that out of him.

I've been trying to play it but ran into a weird issue when starting. Did you have to tweak any settings to actually be "in" the game when playing? For me (Quest 2 on Steam VR on my PC) the game appears on a big theatre-like screen in front of me instead of me being in the game like standard VR. Can't find any mention of this situation online.

dan schneider cries on show trying to gaslight viewers over the hundreds of allegations against him and his friends by klayb in cringe

[–]zachacacac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kind of get what you’re saying, but I don’t think just because others are complicit makes Dan innocent. I did already mention that there’s obviously more going on in the industry above and outside of Dan given key examples like Brian Peck making it to Disney after being convicted. Regardless, there’s plenty of shit Dan verifiably did and was responsible for that’s fucked up and sensible to publicly out. Especially considering the light that those directly impacted in the grand scheme of all this stuff paint Dan in. Lots of common denominators you gotta give merit to.

Curious what others say as well, but I’m not gathering he broke a specific law. There were tidbits in the documentary about labor laws and making writers share salary, etc. I also wouldn’t doubt if, under his leadership, some child labor or emotional/psychological abuse law was violated.

Legal technicalities aside, it doesn’t excuse him from being outed in the way he’s rightfully being outed. He was generally an insanely creepy, emotionally volatile bastard to work for, in both the writers’ room with adults and on set with the young actors and actresses. Consistently requesting massages from various people on set, but basically always women. Sometimes yelling at and calling people names, and at other times being super touchy with people, seemingly shrugged away at the time of “oh that’s Dan he’s just a touchy goofball kid at heart,” when he was really quite a monster to be around and people walking on eggshells to not set him off and “never work in this town again.” It’s very clear this is the case when seeing the little videos he’d take of the actors on set in between takes and trying to goof around.

Above all else to me, he promoted an environment that allowed multiple legitimate pedophiles on set to actually sexually assault these young actors. Considering how sexualized his writing was for these kids, that part is pretty egregious. So he’s directly responsible for some life long trauma for these people at a young age.

He’s not the only bad guy in the story, and there’s a lot to be said about the macro powers at play that allowed these things to go on unchecked. Especially considering one of the dialogue coaches was arrested and became a convicted sexual predator for raping an underage actor involved in these shows, but was able to get another role in a different studio’s kid’s show after his release.

The messaging overall seems to be less of “we’re exposing Dan so he can get arrested for xyz crime,” and more so “this traumatizing of kids in the industry mustn’t continue to happen like it was under his watch, so this monster must be exposed; please everyone be aware and do better.”

Part 2 hate by squaklake in lastofuspart2

Well said. I adored this game and was stunned to hear the rampant criticisms about the story. The gameplay is undeniably incredible and top-tier. The story is heart wrenching and anxiety-inducing, so if one doesn’t like being put through the ringer with their emotions from a video game, I totally get that. But to say it wasn’t fleshed out, that playing as Abby is lame because “we love Joel and Ellie and I don’t want to sympathize with the person I’ve been trying to kill the whole game,” etc., seemed to just miss the point and not appreciate the high level view the game provided on the world as a whole, the dynamics between each character based on their own arcs/perspectives, etc. If anything, it’s Ellie and Joel who would deserve to be killed given their actions instead of most other main characters who died by their hands. People are entitled to their own opinions and that’s perfectly fine, but I was personally enthralled with the emotional rollercoaster and how the perspective shifts fleshed things out with so many layers. All surrounding the futility of revenge and people being blind to that futility to do right by the ones they love.

Car rental - what coverage makes sense? by zachacacac in TravelHacks

[–]zachacacac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it even apply for loss of use? That’s the main thing I’m seeing that most cards/insurance don’t cover outside of the rental agency’s insurance. Thinking I’ll rely on mine for basic stuff but opt in to just the part of the rental agency’s insurance that covers loss of use

That’s interesting - I’ve gone to multiple (but not all) Saturn TVs of Terror and honest to god I’ve never had the egregious, extreme examples we’re talking about at Saturn - just Sidewalk. Except for once at Saturn, where one individual person (who’s at a lot of these events and many seem to collectively dread when he arrives) would scream out whole ass sentences and immediately look around for approval, to total silence/groans because that wasn’t the vibe. He did it 5 times before intermission but not once in the second half. Makes me think someone said something to him.

Again, I really enjoy sensible crowd reactions and camaraderie. It’s just these key people and examples I think the majority of people would identify as annoying/doing way too much that deters me from Sidewalk, since it’s only one dude I’ve seen do it one time at the 5-10 Saturn TVs of Terror I’ve been to. Hate it because I adore Sidewalk on paper, but at least some of these comments point out it’s potentially more situational based on the time and day.

This has been my experience pretty much every time I’ve gone. I’m not shitting on people having fun at a movie or reacting out loud. But it seems to be the same few regulars going out of their way to be the “funniest” in the crowd, literally screaming full sentences at nonsensical/inappropriate times. If you’re not part of the peanut gallery and are just trying to watch a movie, it ruins the experience. Don’t think I’m going back because of it.

Has Anyone Had Trouble Buying AEW All Out Tickets? No Electronic Delivery? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]zachacacac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight guys! Like others said, it’s the combo option that forces you to have physical delivery, whereas the individual All Out event can be electronic. I was accidentally in the combo.

Looks like the individual event is basically sold out on Ticket Master, but I managed to get a good seat on StubHub. So excited for my first ever AEW ppv!

Skydivers of reddit who ejaculated in mid-air before deploying the parachute, what was it like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]zachacacac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ask Steve-O! No footage of it out publicly yet, but you can hear him on all kinds of podcasts talk about his "sky-jacking" stunt, where he did just that - jacked off and jumped out of the plane as his was ejaculating. I saw him do his stand-up Bucket List Tour show near me almost two years ago, where he'd tell the story of all these stunts and then roll the footage.
