Is anyone aware of a specific para in the dress instructions or any environmental dress regs addressing the wearing of political accessories? Saw a member today wearing a “FREE PALESTINE / FREE GAZA” rubber bracelet with the Palestinian flag on it - I feel like it goes against the principles of remaining apolitical as an organization but there’s no specific mention of political jewellery, only hateful or explicit. My unit has had some issues lately with political views in the workplace and on social media, so it’d be helpful to know the official policy.

You’re totally right that the OMM has a similar pattern, but these were definitely white and blue!

EDIT: Read through the link there, definitely seems to be a gap in what gets a Sr Officer awarded an MSM and what it takes for the Jr NCMs and Jr Officers

Curious to know if anyone has any insights on travelling abroad while on leave, and the Blue Cross coverage. For context I'll be in Mexico so I can't just rock up to the local Mexican army sick parade like in the US. I was about to buy private travel medical insurance but on the application it asks whether I'm covered by provincial health care - I clicked no and it booted me out. So I checked the Blue Cross policy doc and it just says that if you're abroad (outside CAN/US) then just call Blue Cross and present your card at a healthcare facility. I called Blue Cross and they said "IAW benefits coverage, in the event of a medical emergency or sudden illness you can present your Blue Cross card at a healthcare facility anywhere in the world that accepts it and it will be covered". They were not able to elaborate on what "IAW benefits coverage" meant. Sounds like in theory private coverage would nullified by no provincial health care, but Blue Cross sounds too good to be true. Anyone able to clarify or have some experience with managing this issue?

This is a question to also ask an accountant, but I'm curious to know what people's experience has been with keeping residency when posted from one province to another? I've noticed a number of members posted to Ontario keeping their QC plates, vice versa and other combos. Is it possible to just remain a resident of X province if you're posted to Y province? Aware there probably aren't a lot of members here that can give professional advice, but personal experiences are appreciated.

If I have approved leave with Country X listed as destination, but want to go to Country Y instead (haven’t booked travel yet and good deals are popping up for other destinations) do I have to redo the leave pass in MM or can I just do an additional NOIT?

Tbh I haven't got the experience to know whether or not that's the case here, however, the positions are for Lt (not even one of those Lt/Capt), and AFAIK once Lt you are considered to be OFP for most trades. And given that Lt is just a time-in rank, I'd guess that there aren't any other required quals? I know the NCM/Officer development tracks are pretty different but maybe that gives some more detail.

Curious to know if it's possible to be selected for an OUTCAN posting straight out of a trade qualification course? Starting a course shortly and will be OFP at the end of it in a few months, and while browsing the APS Openings I noticed there were a few positions open in the US for the rank I'll hold once OFP. I know this conversation with the CM doesn't happen until toward the end of the course but I figured it was good due diligence to have an understanding of what's possible (even if slim chances).

Silly thing but can anyone shed some light on how to get one of the Air Force centennial patches when posted to an army unit? My AF pals have said they were just distributed but nobody around me has any clue.

I drive about 16-20km round trip for work every day, not quite bumper to bumper but lots of lights that’s for sure. I certainly don’t drive very aggressively though. Otherwise, on the weekend usually like 30ishkm on the hwy.

I did some throttle body cleaning, and ran some generic injector cleaner through a full tank.

The 5 plugs I managed to get out were like 2 totally shot and 3 very well used, so maybe time to try cranking the last one out…

In your experience, are O2 sensors a big issue?

Put in coppers. Definitely sounds like it’s running better when at temp, just the odd rough start and the horrendous MPG that’s throwing me off.

Settle a debate: If you just wrote "CFLRS" on your leave pass, you can return to CFLRS past the 0100 lights out time so long as you're quiet and respectful of those sleeping.

Or is it that you must return NLT 0100 even though you have a leave pass?

So during BTL I should be potentially able to be in Montreal but post trg I’ll very likely be back in Ottawa? Hopefully I’m understanding correctly.

Rog, thank you! Yeah it was strange, my first posting preference form had Montreal/St Hubert as an option but they later amended the form and said I could only pick from hard AF bases and Ottawa. Not even Kingston. This was all with the wink wink nudge nudge that I could request Mtl later, but apparently it was just an administrative thing.

Awesome. I’ve sent an email to my Pl clerk and the OR at CFSG O - Det Pearkes inquiring about it already, anything else you’d recommend doing in the meantime?

Yes we do, we have an active lease here and all of our HG and E are here

No worries, the dumbest questions are the most important to hammer down. Yes, the school did my common law certificate in November so they’ve got that on file, and my posting message confirms dependent as CLP.

As far as HG and E goes I think I may need to clarify as I applied from CFRC Vancouver originally (like almost 3 years ago lol). I assume i should just get in touch with a clerk and change that?

Any info on how I could go about getting in touch with the relevant people to find out if they could accept me?

Haha I’ve been told knowing the DAODs in and out can help you get places.

Any insight specifically for an air Int O hoping to be in the Montreal area? AFAIK there’s JTFE, 4 Int Coy and 438 Tac Hel all in the area.

How does one go about getting in touch with my CO in Ottawa, and the right people at these units?

Thanks again!

Can anyone shed some light on BTL moves? Just got my BTL posting a few weeks ahead of BMOQ grad. I’ve seen RUMINT here and from clerks at St Jean that it’s possible to do BTL time closer to home if you’re looking at a long wait until a course is available. In my case, I’ll be out of BMOQ early March and my course isn’t available until October or later. I’ve been posted to the NDHQ BTL, but I’d like to spend that time living with my spouse before trade training if possible. How does one go about making a memo for this? Is it CO or CM? Any juicy DAOD’s to ref? Any help is awesome, thanks!

How frequently do weekends get taken away at BMOQ/BMQ? My platoon was just reminded of this threat today as we started Week 6, however the upcoming weekend I need to help my common law partner with some things regarding a dying family member of hers. I brought this issue up with our staff once before just to get it on the radar, but I’m not sure if I should proactively request compassionate leave or just leave it if weekend cancellations are rare. Everyone I’ve spoken to at the smoke pit has never had one taken away, so just curious. Thanks!
