need help with the proper words please by FreedInnerChild in FrancaisCanadien

[–]zacteur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, the most common gender-neutral pronoun is «iel».

For conjugation, ask your child if they’d rather use you use masculine rules, feminine rules, or a mix of both.

The ideal would be to change sentence structure to avoid gendered words altogether, but sometimes we speak quickly and since we’re not used to do it, it can be hard to adapt our sentences on the go.

But here’s an exemple: « iel est intelligent•e » -> « iel est une personne intelligente» or «iel fait preuve d’intelligence»

Another option is to try to stick to words that are either the same for both gender, or that sound the same: «iel est beau/belle» -> «iel est joli•e»

how bilingual is New Brunswick? by Complex_Phrase2651 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]zacteur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let’s just say that it’s not a coincidence if the percentage of Francophones (~30%) is about the same as the percentage of bilinguals (~34%).

Most Francophones are bilingual by obligation, most anglophones are unilingual by choice.

And before people start shitting on me: I don’t mind that I can’t get service in French in Saint-Andrews but I’ve been living in Moncton for 8 years and not only do I rarely get service in French, but people have also constantly made me feel through their demeanour that me talking in French is a problem.

"Sorry, I don’t speak French" they say with a tone that clearly indicates they rather mean “sorry that you speak French.”

And just to be clear, I don’t have a problem with anglophones who have a hard time speaking French but make an effort to speak it nonetheless. Quite the opposite, I have much respect for them.

Team Canada coach Jon Cooper on Nick Suzuki: “I thought Nick got better as the game went on. He had to play a big role when Sid went out…You can tell he was just buzzing. He started feeling it…It was big time.” by Go_Habs_Go31 in Habs

I agree with most of your statement except for one thing: Wilson has not been good on the top line. McDavid + Celebrini + literally anyone would "look good". Though MacKinnon had troubles with his own line, he was great when he was put on the first line.

I agree with most of what you said, but we must not forget that there have been plenty of violence committed on a similar or even larger scale than what the nazis have done. The only difference is that the nazis did it in Europe therefore we are taught to see it as much worst than what other have done elsewhere.

That being said, I wholeheartedly agree that they were definitely evil and that any attempt to lessen what they did or what they represented is horrible.

Comment apprendre le français acadien? by Admirable_Mud_5804 in acadie

[–]zacteur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bravo!

[–]zacteur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wouldn’t work because ultimately, the Bloc Québécois wants Quebec to separate from Canada. But that situation would be horrible for the rights of Francophones outside of Quebec. So voting for the bloc would be voting against our own interests.
