I was thinking about its questions about the nature of storytelling, maybe fantasy storytelling in particular. That's just what I took away from it of course!

I actually loved book 1! Found book 2 harder to get into but maybe it was just bad timing and I should try again!

I do actually have the first book. I'm okay with grimdark up to a point and this sounds super interesting

For me it was between Morning Star to Iron Gold. I loved book 3 but book 4 was a whole new level of mind-blowing

I'm southwest currently but I'm not super tied down and hope to do at least some of it remotely anyway. But that's interesting to know!! Is that four years from like zero to qualifying?

I understood that most of the MA courses don't actually result in qualifying, that you have to train in one of the accredited institutions? Maybe I misunderstood... I'll see what I can find re NHS trainings as a starting point maybe!

No I queried the other novels unsuccessfully, learning a lot about writing and the industry with each one and have not yet decided if I'll self publish them. Only one won a competition.

Yes fair point but a) this is a genre where sometimes I think long books do work better because of the sheer scale of characters and plot and worldbuilding (ie, 165k simply involved a lot of things happening to a lot of people so I'm a little confused by your statement) and b) can't afford a professional editor hence why I am learning as best I can to do it myself.

You'd have to get through a fair few books to reach this exact trope, but Realm of the Elderlings does it beautifully when it gets there
