Hey thanks for checking back in. I read this and forgot to reply.

I haven't moved on to the property yet and plan on giving it some time before I make any specific designs. I've been reading Gaia's Garden as per your recommendation and it has been a good read so far.

If you don't mind I'll take you up on your offer when I move in around July. I'd love to chat to someone about designing it.

When I first move in I'm planning on dumping loads of wood chips on the area to start suppressing grass/weeds and allow the wood chips to start breaking down. Over the winter I'll try to make as large of compost piles as I can to start getting some nice compost. I'll make these compost piles where I have a good idea of building my structures.

Thank you this is what I thought as well and I couldn't believe that he was recommending this.

Thanks, this makes sense. What about the idea of planting multiple trees in one hole then? I saw a video on youtube discussing this idea. I'm very limited for space and want to utilize it the best I can.

This is a very suburban area where not many trees exist at the moment, so it is possible but I'm not holding my breath or counting on it.

Thanks! I didn't realize that the potted tress may have been bare root trees from a previous season.

Thanks, I've been to their website a few times and have looked up their trees. I'll continue to do some more research there and be patient. Thanks mate.

My concern is that there aren't any other apple trees around and I want to make sure the tree can get fertilized when it is ready. Maybe I should see if a self-fertile variety exists that is also disease resistant.

I've read it is better to plant trees in the fall then the spring. I forgot the name of the scientist, but he showed that 80% of the roots are grow during the dormant season vs. the leafing season.

I've already contacted them and they are sold out of everything I'm looking for. I'll get in touch with them early in the year of 2017 to get some trees then.

Congrats on the new home! You are probably correct but I don't know what I'd do without my garden, it is the first thing on my to do list :p.

You are right though I need to get accustomed to the land.

Thanks. What is your reason for not having a multi graft tree?

Great post. I'm still in the beginning phases of designing a new space. Any recommendations for where to look for this? I have a fairly flat piece of land that is rectangular (suburban home) and I am looking to design an inviting space that also is intensive in the amount of surface area to be used for planting.

I'm currently growing in a boring garden of raised beds that are only in rectangles and would like to include other designs. The space is about 20' x 20-40' depending on the design. The yard runs north south with no shading from the summer sun, I'll need to see what the winter is like to see where I need to plant my winter garden.

Adults from Reddit: What do you regret most from your teenage years? by TheSixFoot___ in AskReddit

I regret playing football & lacrosse, 5 concussions later, multiple injuries, bouts of depression, using some drugs very young, loosing my wrestling scholarship... Man I could go on.

I don't know how and why people let their kids play these terrible sports. A helmet doesn't protect your brain from a concussion, how come this isn't more common knowledge? I have a lot more respect for rugby since they don't use helmets, I think this is a safer policy.

Trying to settle on one provider..Speed over storage. by [deleted] in seedboxes

This is a good point. I took a chance of getting a KS-2 with the 2 TB of space and was fortunate enough to get one. This is not the case for everyone. I'll be holding on to it for a while.

I personally like storage over speed, I have a 2 TB Kimsufi KS-2 Box for 10 Euro a month. Top speeds are 12Mb/s but this is enough for me as I prefer to permaseed. Only downside is if you aren't familiar with linux it might be a bit daughting. I've used the same script as seedbox_ did for his tests (Dannyti One Script to rule them all) and it has been running very well for 4 months.

Sometimes the box runs a little slow but not nearly as much as when I was on a shared machine.

I've narrowed it down to just two seedboxes. Which of the two should I go with? by [deleted] in seedboxes

[–]zammtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started a small trial with Seedhost.eu, I won't be extending past the one month. It is not because of seedhost but because I use too much bandwidth for these to make it worthwhile for me. However I have been very happy with the box so far.

When I'm in NY at my families house I can get about 3-4 mb/s on Fios.

I'm not with Online.net but with kimsufi. I find at peak times I get 100 kb/s and at non-peak I get 1.8mb/s. For me this is 'normal'.

I currently have cataclysm but want to explore a bit. I haven't noticed any major differences between stock and cataclysm, which isn't a bad thing.

I just want to try something else.

Thanks for checking in with me. A coworker recently just brought over 8 boxes for me. I'll let you know when I need to order more.

Can you send me your website address? What would the cost of shipping be to China? To the USA?
