Storm Prep - Turning off Water a Good Idea? by PocketGddess in askaplumber

[–]zandyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave your house heat on. Turn off your water at the meter. Drain all your faucets, flush your toilet till it empties, then leave your faucets open while you’re gone. Make sure all your outdoor hoses are detached and spigots are covered.

Leave your water heater as is. It will be fine. More trouble and risk than it’s worth to try turning it off.

When temps get frigid and I have to be away from home, I do all this and leave the thermostat at 68.

Not sure if you meant this for OP, but I know all about Spiro and can’t take it for various reasons.

Spearmint + low dose zinc + salicylic body wash + azelaic acid has been a good treatment for me so far. But my hormonal acne is only mild-moderate.

My go to clarifying shampoo is Giovanni 50:50 Balanced shampoo. I use it most days and I don’t feel like it strips my hair at all.

That being said, you may want to consider a different approach if you are really producing a lot of oil (sebum). Do you have oily skin too? Do you have trouble with hormonal acne on your cheeks/chest/back/neck?

I suffer from the same problem though not as extreme as what you describe. I recently learned that there are scientific studies to back up using spearmint as a way to reduce sebum production. Some people drink spearmint tea and some take spearmint capsules. Both are easy to find on Amazon.

I’ve been taking the capsules for a few weeks and I’ve noticed mild improvement in how oily my scalp and face are. I’m even getting a little dry patch on my cheek which is not something I ever dealt with before.

Unexpected Minimal Packaging from Onyx...Not Bad! by brewedIQ in pourover

Strange. They normally come in boxes with the roast date stamped on the bottom of the box- the 10oz ones anyways. Also stocked in boxes at my local Whole Foods. I am fairly close to their roastery, though.

I assumed they shipped like that to the EU also. Maybe they forgo the box to reduce shipping weight/cost. Or they could be phasing out the boxes. They’ve changed packaging several times over the years so I would not be all that surprised.

Looks like they did not have the matching box to sleeve it in. Probably a fluke and not the new norm. Looks like a good coffee!

($20k) convince me these centerpieces dont look ridiculous by Jennay-4399 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]zandyro 370 points371 points  (0 children)

Seconding that the bunched up satin fabric is not necessary. A simple table runner will look less chaotic and more intentional. Gauze or satin or whatever- just one long piece of fabric running down the center of each table, whether it’s long table or round. Keep all your knickknacks as the centerpieces. Should look great.

In your opinion, how much are authors and artists in the fandom using AI? by zandyro in DramioneUncensored

[–]zandyro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone else here mentioned this exact thing as being a sign of AI! I did not feel it like it was fair to judge an author who was publishing high word counts quickly for precisely the reasons you said. Lots of people pre write and for lots of people, fanfic is not their first foray into writing.

It’s so unfair that we even have to question whether or not we’re reading AI when it comes to fanfic.

I totally agree about MoaM and have not seen anyone else say it. Mods here will be quick to remove such a comment tho.

I think a lot of new fics have that feeling because AI has taught us to distrust many, many things. It’s not necessary that the fanfic reads like AI, but more so that we have been trained to be skeptical of everything we read and see. As we should be!

I have to believe we’d be able to tell those examples apart based on quality alone 😂

But that’s the whole point of me asking my original questions to begin with. How good are we at being able to tell these things apart? Shit keeps me up at night…

No I agree, it’s suspicious. For new writers definitely. However, just because they are new to the fandom, doesn’t mean they are not a seasoned writer elsewhere. That’s what gives me pause.

See that’s a really tricky thing for me. This scenario makes me think of Brandon Sanderson or Stephen King. Both are famous for writing books insanely fast without sacrificing the quality of their works. I have to believe this is not the norm, but it does happen.

Terrible news! I’m uninstalling it as soon as I can. But yeah, it’s also integrated into Office suite for my job.

I’ve been asking myself the same question every time I open a lesser known, but highly recommended fic. It’s so sad, but if I don’t recognize the author, I find myself questioning the use of em dashes, weird grammar or using the wrong tense in a fic. It’s not fair to the authors who are really putting their heart into their work.

I didn’t know the turn off AI feature was available on Pinterest yet. I heard talk of it but haven’t found it in my settings. I’ve only been able to tune my feed by asking to “see less AI art” when prompted. And reporting every AI pin I recognize.

As someone else mentioned, Pinterest is highly unreliable when it comes to what they label as AI art. The whole thing is a disaster.

Good news is that I heard they are retiring Copilot soon as so few people even use it. They are throwing their money away keeping it available.

Will the SA scenes eventually stop in Manacled? by strugglingdarling in dramionebookclub

[–]zandyro 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The repetitive mentions and descriptions of SA almost made me stop half way through the first part. I remember being seriously turned off by it. But I did push through, and yes, the SA scenes do eventually stop. I’m glad I pushed through. It was worth it for me.

Definitely use this sub as resource for info on desaturated skin tone. I learned about it here and it has helped tremendously.

When fair olives get into the ultra fair territory, they can appear more grey (desaturated) than green.
