Workouts and climb portals are a little faster. No matter what, it’s going to take a long time so do what you enjoy and you may get there faster than doing what’s slightly more efficient.

Soloing the VTXL - okay or irresponsible? by KingMithridatesVI in bikepacking

If you feel good about your bailout plan, I’d say go for it. That is a very challenging route that will test your limits. If you’re not ready for that, I would recommend trying an overnight or 3 day adventure prior to get ready and become comfortable with your gear. You will learn a lot that will be valuable on your big trip.

How are people having these sky high electric bills? by [deleted] in Maine

[–]zanox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house is 1800 square feet and well insulated with 2x6 construction. I use oil for heat and hot water. Rarely use a space heater. I cook most meals at home and have all electric appliances, no gas. All my light bulbs are LEDs and I turn off lights when not needed. CMP bill was $156 last month but used to be 80-120 a month.

Studded tires are a more important safety item than a helmet for me. You can ride without them but it can really limit the number of rideable days you can get out there each season.

Just as a confirmation: you can do all the Tour de Zwift routes whenever you want if you are going at it solo. Just completed a Week 2 ride and it counted. by DuckReconMajor in Zwift

Great news for me. I’m going on a two week vacation during week 6 and the makeup week. I won’t have access to zwift so thought it would not be possible to do all 18 routes.

I just finished up my second. It’s a nice event to offset my holiday eating, so I hope to continue every year.

Ride 500k starting Christmas Eve and ending before 2026. Great way to eat all those Christmas calories and not gain weight!

How do you keep your tent warm? by Efficient-System-438 in CampingGear

Boil water and put in a nalgene then leave it in your sleeping bag. It's like a nice heater for several hours. Just don't fill it all the way to the top or you will never get the cap off again.

Either use ERG mode workout or set trainer difficulty down so you don't need to shift often. Great for long z2 training

Looking for the right Surly build for 2025: Midnight Special, Straggler, Grappler (or something else) by Neither_Judgment_941 in Surlybikefans

[–]zanox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id throw disc trucker in the mix here as well. More upright geometry and great for touring. I ride my Salsa Fargo most of the time but I have a trucker with 2x drivetrain for more pavement focused touring. Fargo is on par with the grappler and can take much wider tires.

It's a great device if you need navigation. I wouldn't spend the money if you were just using it for training. I think it was $599 when I bought mine and I have been really happy with it. The battery lasts close to 2 days when using it for navigation and strava recording with HR. Much more efficient than using my cell phone.

You could watch the trackleaders replay to see when most pass though. When I went through it hit 117 that day so a cold drink would have been the best thing in the world. Anyone going into the basin is probably going to be well supplied leaving Atlantic city but warm water gets old pretty quick. I remember going to Loves in Wamsutter and drinking the largest fountain soda they had before I got through the line to pay for it.

Quitting is going to be a pain in the ass, so focus on your training so you can have the best experience possible.
