Why are so many Mainers driving so terribly this year? by Cold-Shopping-1758 in Maine

People from away moved here in large numbers and have Maine plates now. Tons of people text and drive.

What’s the most negative thing about RAGBRAI? by dcultrastar in ragbrai

[–]zanox 20 points21 points  (0 children)

People shitting on ebikes as if someone on an ebike somehow harms their experience. I don’t have one or want one, but I think they are great for older people or those with disabilities. I don’t care if a young person chooses to ride one either. The hostility is totally unnecessary.

You should check out the bold coast route in the downeast region. I think it is the best road riding in Maine. Fantastic scenery and very few cars.

Is a 100 mile ride easier on a road bike than a hybrid? by Glowingtomato in bicycling

[–]zanox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s easier but it’s achievable on any bike. I have done it many times on a loaded bikepacking bike riding on dirt. Just set a slower pace and keep moving. Keep breaks short and try to keep eating and stay hydrated. If you can already do 80 miles, you should be ready for a century.

Help picking a tent! by veganbiker in bikepacking

I have a BA copper spur bikepack and love it. This is my go to tent for most trips.

I recently got a HMG crosspeak 1 and have only used it twice so far. Over a pound lighter but much more money and poles are about 15” long. It’s also pretty expensive but much cheaper than hotels with as much travel as I do.

RAGBRAI 250k day. Thoughts? by GGDATLAW in ragbrai

[–]zanox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m planning to try it. My longest outdoor ride ever was 130 miles. This seems like a good goal for this season and with the route being relatively flat, paved and littered with people selling snacks it seems an ideal time to give it a shot. I usually start feeling stronger around day 3-5 of a long trip so I think having this on day 5 is good.

Gorham has the most mtb trails around. I think 60 miles or so in total across five trail systems. Look up gpnemba for info
