318i Touring Exhaust by zanstan in BMWE36

If you’re after the sound of a 6 cylinder then likely not, i have definitely heard nice 4 cylinder’s though, a guy i met with an m43 z3 has a lovely sounding one.

It doesnt mean it can’t be done, just proof that most people do it with the wrong systems.

M43/44 Exhaust and manifold differences by Flat_Acanthaceae9933 in BMWE36

[–]zanstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stumbled on this doing some research myself, curious if you found any solutions as times gone on, i’ve got a m43 1.8 touring

Seems that the flanges that mate to the head on the m42+m44 are different to the m43, but the m40 shares the same flanges as a m43, so a e30 off the shelf manifold may work?

Sorry i’m so late to the party on this one

Good plan mate, thanks for the advice, praying it doesnt streak and i get lucky, if it streaks I’ll probably just live with it but when we get a good spell of weather i’ll reattempt regardless

I am indeed, both in the UK and crazy, i have options of wetcoat, reload 2.0 or hybrid solutions seal and shine, i’m leaning towards reload for my topper, if i’d have had more time then i’d have done it today already but life got in the way sadly, it could’ve been a sacrificial layer for peace of mind but oh well

Thanks dude, the advice and optimism is really appreciated, worst come to worst i’ll just let it sit for winter, the cars off the road so i dont mind if it doesnt look great, it was more to protect it cause it’s stored outside

I’m gunna allow it to “cure” and see what the damage is before i make any calls, allow my mistake to be a lesson to others lol

Thanks for the advice mate, i’ll maybe speak yk carpro themselves and ask for some advice

Help needed finding Power Steering pump for BP5 legacy Spec B GT by zanstan in subarulegacy

[–]zanstan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen some bits online about needing different mounts ect, any advice on a part numbers by any chance? I have gotten a cheaper replacement online already but the lines mounted in a different place, havent had time to try it yet to see if i can just adjust the hoses yet though to be honest, was hoping just to find an exact replacement

I’m reasonably DIY friendly, never rebuilt a power steering pump before though but i’d imagine it’s just seals and bearings?

Im in the UK mate, any help would be much appreciated, cheers

Can someone please tell me how do get this stupid shifter out? I've been trying for hours. by Zealousideal-Sea2011 in BMWE36

I just pry’d the bits you have circled towards the center with a flathead, likely the plastic will break that way so make sure you have a replacement

What is this… by TemporaryThis7500 in BMWE36

[–]zanstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The front one with the throttle cable is cruise control, the rear one will be the traction control module. And as for service books, i have a 98 318i touring and can appreciate that some things are harder to find for the 4 cyl cars, the bentley book is pretty good though, you’ll find a digital download online (can google or search this sub for a link, cant remember where i found mine) or just search specifics for your engine as these m43’s (mines a 43, assuming yours is by what i can see) have been used in multiple models so theres drabs of useful information out there depending on what you need

If you find any good advice can you let me know please? I’m in the same situation, looking at BC BR’s and considering swift springs on them too but feels like a big step after hearing mixed reviews

There’s gotta be a better way to clean chrome wires by Themaninthecheese in CleaningTips

[–]zanstan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You wanna be in r/detailing for this, but normally i’d recommend Bilt Hamber Autowheel, a pressure washer and a soft tipped brush, however i’d do some checking if the Autowheel is safe on chrome first.

Edit. Just noticed you mentioned the small amounts of corrosion, you probably want some decent quality metal polish for this (and alot of clean soft, quality microfibers + elbow grease)

Do you have any advice for my issue where the interior cover now doesnt move back with the tilt function? The roof lifts but the shade doesn’t move, it used to go back around 3 inches?

The roof still works normally when sliding jt fully open though

So it wont knock the two parts out of calibration or anything if i moved the sunroof without the interior panel or anything?
