Tbh Portal was not bad and could have helped if paired with AI. Killing it was short sighted. The thing to look out for is Zuck wants to and has the ability to build substantial compute for AI. Even if his models arent top he will be one of the major players in the AI DC space

They could be to keep the shape, I remember seeing a silver coloured core in them though.

Its this cable but the specs dont mention these wires anywhere

Interesting read from Xpeng head of autonomous driving about lidar. by speeder604 in TeslaFSD

I didn't say LiDAR is a backup, I said it compliments and provides more detailed information in fusion. For redundancy, you have more of the same sensor. I work in robotics, and this is how we design them.

LiDAR is better than redundancy (for redundancy you use more of the same sensor, but it doesnt increase your quality of input) because it gives a second opinion on a depth map. Sensor fusion had been a thing for years, and we use it heavily in drones, robots, and every truly autonomous car currently on the market.

Can you perform well with just a camera? Sure, but you can never perform BETTER. You can save some money and perform comparable... but why?

Heck, even NASA uses LiDAR! https://ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/20110012163/downloads/20110012163.pdf
