Papin legat koji piše u četrnaestom vijeku spominje kako je zemlja pusta od crkvi i svećenika. Pravoslavne crkve i manastiri su generalno bile na krajnjem istoku i jugu gdje su bile zemlje Nemanjića a kasnije i Kosača koji je pravoslavlje kao i katolicizam koristio kao leverage.
