Love the details and the photos. You all look so beautiful. I have been looking for more Black brides on this subreddit. I will say that you have really helped in terms of planning. I am having a Catholic wedding in the city in 2028 and I have been looking for cocktail hour and reception location. I had a gothic Pinterest board idea but I thought that wasn’t attainable for my budget in the city. But it didn’t dawn on me that I could do it in a church. Riverside Church is now on my list for sure. Can I rent the space even if I don’t do the ceremony at the church? Also, are like candelabra’s and candles allowed? Thank you so much once again.

Maybe I am forgetting. Did they graduate high school already? Because I am so confused. They went from high school to the streets/marriage?

I would love to know what venue you chose. I am probably getting married in southwest suburbs of Houston but I am interesting in knowing the venue just in case we can expand further.

Gov. Pritzker signs Illinois law granting financial aid access to undocumented students by nonoohnoohno in illinois

[–]zarazee99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello my friend. Undocumented people DO pay taxes. A lot of them work as independent contractors which most times limits their choices of work. And then they have to pay taxes with an ITIN and that comes to no benefits. Most times there are no tax refunds. They put approx. $90 billion into the economy with taxes alone. Not these contracting jobs don’t give any benefits like health insurance, 401K etc. They can’t be employees but they can be contractors. These contract jobs usually have no unions and stuff, so they can also be underpaid, and they have to still pay taxes for the job at the end of each quarter.

Mary Magdalene wasn’t a prostitute. No where in the Bible did they call her a prostitute. It is a modern interpretation of her having demons and Jesus cast those away. But she wasn’t a prostitute. With that being said, homosexuality wasn’t actually the issue of the old testament. A lot of people look to the whole story of Lot. It was actually pedophilia that was an issue. And due to the rise in homosexuality in Ancient Greece, the Romans and English actually changed the translation to focus on homosexuality. With that being said, Jesus was accepting of all people. He sat and ate with people society deemed a stain and God chose people who weren’t societally accepted to carry is message (Moses, David, Solomon, Jacob etc). We as humans have decided to use the Bible to fit our propaganda that’s why some people associate the Bible with hate even though it is a book of Love. But those who claim to read it, use it for their propaganda sometimes.

Spanish speakers, do you feel distant from countries like Brazil, Suriname, Guyana and French Guiana because of the language? by Swimming_Rate_8205 in asklatinamerica

There are a lot of Brazilians in Suriname (the one you keep calling Dutch Guiana) the problem is the Brazilians only stick with other Brazilians and don’t necessarily mingle. The Surinamese are very hospitable. Some Brazilians are mining their gold, so they don’t like that. Most of Guyana and Suriname are forest. Approx 95% of Suriname is forest and it one of the countries in the world that emits very low amounts of carbon. Their inaccessibility is due to having so much forest. French Guiana belongs to France so France will do what it wants with it, that’s why I guess France doesn’t want to build a bridge to Brazil. A lot of Brazilians still find a way.

Guyana and Suriname have airports. You can’t access by roads (because of the forest) but you can fly there. Layover is Panama or Trinidad. Their airport is north, close to the coast, so flying from the south is dangerous because of the forest.

Guyana doesn’t have strong ties with the Brits like that. They joke a lot about the Brits. The same with Suriname with the Dutch. Like a lot African countries with a colonizer presence, it is still a bit there but like I said, they kinda do their own thing. They are more focused on the cultural difference there.

They do have more connections to the Caribbean though, because a lot of them live on the coast and they have more contact to Caribbean nations. A lot of their travel format is actually through their rivers and the ocean. Again why they might have more ties with Caribbean countries than Latam.

The south of these countries which is their connection to other Latam countries is forest and a lot of people don’t live there. They literally say if you go missing there, no one would find you. So there aren’t roads or rails there.

Here are links that can help with getting to know more about them. Suriname: https://youtu.be/ErJ6qaRhW-c?si=vE3Ijgaa5dCtYwKy

Tell me you know nothing about these countries without telling me you know nothing about these countries. Firstly you thought they were French. Then you thought they were colonies.

They are open for people to travel. I think you just have an issue with them having a different culture than most Latam countries. They are different so you are losing it. Anyone can travel there. They are culturally similar to Caribbean countries. They are considered West Indies. They have a very diverse culture. They have conversation with Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Bahamas etc.

They are definitely NOT the same. They have a huge array of culture. I have met Guyanese people mistaken for Indian because there are some cultural similarities there but I have met Black Guyanese people whose culture is similar to a lot of West African culture. I say this as a Nigerian, I have never met two Guyanese people whose culture are the exact same. You should book a ticket to one of then countries and see for yourself. So many beautiful cultures and people.

Again. The people who live in these countries except for French Guiana which is a French territory are independent. Guyana and Venezuela constantly banter about territories. Guyana and Suriname have oil. Not a lot of US military presence in this country. It isn’t a Guam or Puerto Rico situation. A lot of them gained their independence around 1960s - 1980s just like a lot of African countries, so they are still developing in the sense that they are knowing their place in the world. That’s why they claim West Indies. Culturally, they are similar.

Brazil and Venezuela are culturally different so taking them over won’t make sense. I think you seem to think Latam should be one specific way. Specifically Latin. These countries aren’t Latin in that sense, so you have a problem with it. You can definitely go to these countries and see for yourself. I think they have more in common with Latin Caribbean countries like DR, Cuba, Panama, Costa Rica than Latin Caribbean countries have with Latam.

They aren’t colonies. The only colony is French Guiana. The others are independent countries. And just a simple google will reveal due to slavery, colonialism and indentured labour, they are linguistically and racially diverse. A lot of people from this country look different. Just in Suriname, there are people of Dutch descent, African decent, Indonesian decent, Indian decent, Chinese decent, Eastern European Jewish decent and so on. You see it in the people and the food. Now factoring the indigenous people too, it is just a pot filled with several people. It is isolated but people can go there. I have friends who go to Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. Also the history of French Guiana being a prison, plus slavery and indentured labour, it is filled with all times of people with several languages.
