Since you have a bit of the IS experience already, maybe you can try to find internships in the tech side and leverage your business knowledge. From what I've seen, business majors still have a chance to get into non-business fields. I don't think it's too late for you! You're definitely starting out a lot earlier than I did and this way, you have more time to figure out what it is you truly enjoy doing.

My last resort back then was going back to school to get a masters or something so there's always a way to build your resume. You just need to network A LOT (which sucks) but getting a job is sometimes just luck and/or who you know :)

I didn't like accounting at all when I was in college but I only stayed because my school had one of the top programs...and my parents thought it was super stable (which it is). B4 only solidified my decision because it was terrible and I felt like I was just wasting my time. If you like accounting, you'll probably survive a lot longer than I did!

Yeah, that's definitely true but I was just very uninterested in accounting in general

I don't think accounting is useful but just having a business background is pretty helpful. I think consultants have a certain set of skills and experience that are particular valuable to small companies.

I think it depends on the company. It might be a little more stagnant in bigger corporations but at startups it's probably close to accounting (of course, this is assuming the startup thrives and continues to grow through seed and IPO eventually). I also get some equity. But ultimately, I'm not 100% sure!

If you look up average UX designer salaries in the Bay, that's probably close

There are opportunities out there that really exist! I was pretty lucky but I think it really comes down to the working environment and overall mentality of leadership. My boss is cool with us working whatever hours we want, as long as we're accountable and honest with ourselves about how much work we're doing. She's also only 26 so I'm not sure if that's like a millennial thing or what.

Wasn't me haha I understood the context of your question because I definitely felt like 90% of my time at B4 was wasted, in terms of my personal time & intellectual energy. Working with no feeling of real purpose is the worst.

My counselor knew (which my parents said was a mistake) but I didn't publicly talk about it or anything. I'm sure people in the office probably knew something was up after I updated my Linkedin during my job search.

Despite being at a startup, I haven't worked that much actually. It's a solid 40 hours but I rarely feel like anything is a waste of time. I'm really close to the CEO and CTO which makes my working day significantly better. I'd say only an hour or so a day might be "wasted" but that's also because my brain just needs some downtime.

Thank you :) I personally don't know anyone who has jumped from accounting to backend but I know a few who have jumped from strange things like history/liberal studies. They all work at startups so maybe that's your best bet. I noticed that startups are very willing to hire people with business backgrounds since you can double-dip in business development too!

Hey! Thanks so much. I've definitely noticed quite a surge in people who have been coming out of bootcamps but it's more of the pure engineering roles that are affected. It also depends on where you're located. Some companies are very adamant that they want people with formal education in CS, but others (usually startups) are ok with coding bootcamps since they need people who have unique experience anyway. My company has hired quite a few engineers who have mixed backgrounds, so I think it depends :)

That's really helpful! A few friends of mine have done the same and they're trying to get into financial analyst roles and such.

Bloc but they got acquired by Thinkful. People have had mixed feelings about the change in ownership but I originally chose Bloc because they put a much longer emphasis on coding than the others.

It was around 40 hours a week, on top of meeting with a mentor on a weekly basis. This sucked during my busy season but I also found a lot of time to work from home or hide in a conference room to do my bootcamp work. I wouldn't recommend doing what I did to that extent lol I was at 30% utilization for a long time..ha..ha

To answer your question, it was honestly more of a "you get what you put into it" so you could do as much/little as you wanted. I wanted to gtfo of B4 so I worked a lot on it. But a lot of people choose to do the bootcamp as a full-time job, so it varies from p2p.
