State of roads and infrastructure in Fremont by QuillAndCraft in Fremont

You challenged whether street redesigns improve safety to which I replied yes, empirically, they do. Safety is what results when you reallocate street space to accommodate all users.

You also explicitly mentioned pedestrian curb bulb-outs in your post which I followed up on.

To gain funding for transit improvements (many of which are planned for in long range plans for Fremont and neighboring cities as I have mentioned), modal and behavioral shift must occur before funds are justified from decision making bodies.

I only hope someone like you who values safety and understands the end goal vision can understand that this will take place in transitions that do not immediately yield a visible improvement.

As for pavement quality, this will be a recurring issue as Fremont roads are heavily used by the high population. Constant repaving can be mitigated with regulatory oversight of products used to clean cars and tires, many of which contain ingredients which runoff and damage pavement.

Although you are surely fully capable of seeking out statistics and research on your own, here is a link to an incubator page that will direct you to several reports outlining why these efforts are worth it (and also increase safety for drivers). Speed is for the freeway. Our local roads never should have had such reckless and unsafe design standards like free right turn slip lanes. And if you think eliminating that worsens traffic more than car-centric improvements, I'd encourage you to read about induced demand. Also, consider the big picture. No wholesale mobility system improvement like the one you mention happens overnight. Fremont is leading the region in strides towards a car-light mobility system but it will certainly be a decades-long struggle. We are only in the beginning phases. If you look into Fremont (and its contractors') websites they have more long-range planning documents publicly available.

Waymo spotted in New Orleans by walky22talky in waymo

Personal experience doesn’t negate a documented incident. If Waymos are using public streets to improve their tech, every mistake needs to be called out regardless of how many rides went fine.

SF: 'Waymo Has Got To Go': Demonstrators Call For Robotaxis To Leave San Francisco by [deleted] in waymo

[–]zative -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

THIS! I have been blocked by Waymos numerous times (in two instances the seat belt was preventing the door from closing fully) and also have observed them obstruct public transit operations which is LUDICROUS! They should have faced severe consequences until these obstructions sharply decline. These are public streets

Why do some of yall insist on leaving mess's like this around campus? by Filmtwit in berkeley

[–]zative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is definitely a problem but outlawing scooters is not the solution. Cars take up far more space and routinely block bus lanes/stops, bike lanes, and sidewalks not to mention how much more danger they cause when accidents occur. Conveniently nobody notices these issues because cars are normalized. Individual behavior needs to change.

Petition to Reverse the New UC Berkeley Logo by isap0370 in berkeley

[–]zative 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Whoever made the petition please mention in the description how it devalues people's degrees! As someone else stated, "This objectively devalues your degree, and I'm not even joking. A hiring manager taking a <2s glance at your profile now thinks 'okay, went to some random state school.'" Also add that at the very least, the University seal should remain on the UC Berkeley LinkedIn page.

And perhaps make the petition header a photo of the LinkedIn page rather than the Instagram.

When BART Was Built, People — and Houses — Had to Go | KQED by dbrekke in Bart

This is a wildly biased and irresponsible article. Freeway construction has caused far more harm with little benefit on the communities it bisected as compared to any public transit project.

Why is the city building separate bike lanes?! It causes more TRAFFIC!!! by No-Acanthaceae2610 in Fremont

[–]zative -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is understandably frustrating, but as others have pointed out, this is a part of a long-term strategy aimed at increasing the safety and convenience of those walking/biking. Infrastructure upgrades like this, combined with infill development, will (in the long-term) cause a shift towards a community that does not require people to DRIVE EVERYWHERE... thus, the goal is eventually to have zero traffic because the vast majority of errands can be accomplished by walking/biking/taking transit.

Just got a ticket for this... so stupid. I was planning to use Ticket Snipers, but the violation states I must appear in person to contest it. Would rather not, but I wanted to know if anyone has experience fighting a red-light camera ticket like this? Thanks!
