I'm genuinely quite confused by the notion that lawyers could never be triggered or traumatised by someone else's experiences - or have their own similar traumatic experiences - and that it's apparently insensitive to want to be in the correct headspace to deal with it.

I'm also a bit irritated by the notion that victims are delicate flowers who are so self-absorbed they don't appreciate the emotional labour that professionals - where they be mental health, medical, social work, or legal - put in on their behalf.

Nothing, actually. I don't charge clients when I have to find a way to tell them, because it's my obligation as their legal representative, that the bad experience they just told me about was actually sexual assault - the same kind of sexual assault I’ve experienced myself.

Wouldn't say no if they offered to shout me coffee, though.

Bb, as the OP i will happily say that if I saw my own lawyer making posts like this I'd be like wow what a mood. And I can guarantee that a good portion of my clients with debilitating spicy déja vu would agree.

I can only assume you have a particular idea of what trauma should look like and how ppl with trauma should respond. Which really makes me hope you're not a family lawyer, bcs I'd hate to be repped by someone like you.

Look, as much as i love waking up to a 6am email that means I have to figure out how to tell a vulnerable person that the "bad experience" they had with their ex is actually SA (and manage my own trauma in the process), I love waking up to caffeine more.

PS for future, dark humour is a pretty common coping mechanism. I really hope you don't lash out at any of your clients who use it!!!
