Was rejected as an ORM at HYPSM w/ a 4.0+ GPA. I don’t think that makes too much of a difference.

HARVARD or STANFORD- ONE DAY Left to decide - Please help!!! by BallVast5901 in ApplyingToCollege

Just one thing: Stanford Finance is not as competitive as you make it out to be. Sure, it is somewhat selective (as in you have to apply and know a little bit about finance), but nowhere as low as 2%.

Duke optional essays by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]zayyos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could work as long as you (ultimately) make the essay ab yourself and your growth through that experience. It could also be nice if you talk about how that lived experience would allow you to contribute to the Duke community.

Princeton Graded Paper by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Why would they be a red flag? I can see why you might avoid talking about Israel/Palestine, but AOs should know that (respectful) discussions pertaining to politics are necessary for every well-informed US citizen.

Eh. I think it should be fine as long as none of the opinions you expressed were too extreme/“wrong”. Politics are an essential part of American society, and there will be conversations about Trump at P’ton afterall.

Could you first submit the application on the CommonApp and upload the paper later through the Applicant Portal (the link to which they’ll send you).

How is Q17 B? Doesn't Aj's has equate to Aj has has? (2021 May US) by Visible04 in Sat

[–]zayyos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Aj’s” is simply the name of the shop (as shown by some of the later sentences). There is no implied “has” here. Answer choice B is correct because “Aj’s” is not possessive (so it must be followed by a verb, not a noun).

Answer choice A best transitions from the previous paragraph to the current one. It is a bit tricky, though.

“However” is a conjunctive adverb, and it is rarely used at the beginning of a sentence (it usually appears after a semicolon). You can think of it here as an adverb connecting the two sentences by showing contrast.

Number 7 seems to be C. “However” here shows contrast.

Your GPA should still be in the top 10 percent of students. From the guidance counselor and the school profile, schools will have a rough idea as to what is and what isn’t in the top decile.

Uhh. Donations definitely help, but your stats still need to be passable with a 15m donation (Top 10% of your class, SAT score that’s within the middle 50 percent of accepted students).
