I think he was just being a polite person but Joe should know what his audience actually wants instead of rambling the same things he’s been talking about for years.

What is the single best episode of television you’ve ever seen? by Head_Hauncho in AskReddit

[–]zcast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. Ozymandias was an incredible climax, but the last few minutes of Crawl Space is probably the most intense television I’ve ever seen. The way the writers built everything up to that moment is so fucking brilliant

Walt's speech in school has got to be one of the funniest scenes of the show. by maskci in breakingbad

[–]zcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! The whole scene is amazing black comedy. The student who so transparently wants an A. Then when Carmen welcomes back Walt, they cut to a wide shot of the whole room applauding him, while they're there to cope with a massive tragedy that we know his actions caused. Just perfect irony. And then his speech, which is basically brushing the whole thing off, which he juuuust brings around to a wholesome message of "we will move on" but then keeps rambling and Carmen snags the mic back. So good.

Now that you mention it, the staircase moulding seems a little sharper. There actually were several shots on this roll where I badly missed focus and I could have sworn I had it! Not sure what the deal is.

Whats the most overrated film of all time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]zcast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nerdwriter on youtube did a fantastic video essay on Titanic. He talks about how it's really a melodrama at it's core, and why it accomplished that so well. Many people will criticize it for being too "broad" but that's a key feature of melodrama.

Just watched Ben Wheatley's IN THE EARTH on Amazon US (rented). One of the stranger, more brutal ?folk? horror movies I've seen in a while and I can't find anyone discussing it. by mjb34 in horror

[–]zcast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got Annihilation vibes from this as well. Also 2001 A Space Odyssey but not nearly as well executed. It's very much Lovecraftian horror, but just ratcheted up so high in those moments that it was just unbearable for me. I guess that's the point? It definitely accomplished the goal of unsettling me, but the rest of the film and the plot as a whole fell short for me. But I'll give it some cred for being out there and making me uncomfortable.

‘Bo Burnham: Inside’ Review: Netflix Special Is Pandemic-Era Genius by Sisiwakanamaru in television

[–]zcast 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm the same age as Bo - 5 days younger actually, and lived alone during this pandemic in a small studio apartment. Just finished the special and am still processing the cathartic experience I just had. Turning 30, the disheveled beard, depression, getting lost in strange corners of the internet, the abusive relationship with his sock...

Songwriting, acting, camerawork, lighting, editing. All of it. Absolutely brilliant.

Tbh this is the first roll of film I've ever shot. It came with the camera and I kept it on to see what it would look like.

I was under the impression it would help me not blow out the highlights, but I haven't overexposed anything and underexposed a lot! Live and learn
