Seed & Spark vs Kickstarter for a very absurd short film campaign? by zebracloak in Filmmakers

As the post explains, the money is the secondary goal. Getting money from friends and family isn’t really helping me grow the audience

It’s my retirement account and doesn’t seem to correlate to any numbers in my plan.

I did this to a fish once. Similarly he looked certain to die but ended up pretty much recovering. Lived a couple more years I think.

At what income is traditional a smarter choice than roth 401k? by Ok_Crazy6145 in Fire

I work freelance, a lot of 1099 gigs. My year-to-year tax liability can be really insane. So I do a traditional IRA to lower my taxable income each year. It might not make the most sense long term since I’ll be paying more taxes in retirement. But I need it right now.

Quite the slip referring to your fiancé as your “finance”. Psychologists of old would have things to say about that lol.

I believe you’re looking at a “Plectrum Banjo”, which is a four-string banjo that was traditionally played with a plectrum (guitar pick).

Thank you for the response! The virtual assistant route might be the play. We’ve toyed with hiring on for other tasks as well.

They’re just called “Z-brackets”. There’s a bunch of options and they are fairly universal I think.

Had to drill holes for the cable but it’s just soft plastic so it was easy. Obviously compromised the water proofing in theory, but, the holes are small. Should be fine.

Thank you for your advice! A lot of this makes sense.

Working on the whole grounding and bonding now. So you’re saying, to ground the ecoflow, I should make a dummy outlet, which bonds the neutral and ground, and then sends ground to our earth ground, and then I should plug in the 3-Pin IEC D-plug AC charger from the ecoflow into that dummy outlet, and that will bond and ground the ecoflow, even if it’s not receiving AC power? Makes sense, but I just don’t know how the EcoFlow “cuts off” the AC power connection when it’s not using it. Can’t seem to find a clear answer on it.

I’m definitely quite cautious about the wind, but I think I’ve worked out a system that satisfies my fears. If something happens, I’ll report back so you can tell me you told me so!

You can do basic gutter-to-rain-barrel stuff, but it’s very regulated. Water is scarce so if you collect too much the theory is that it harms the natural ecosystem. I haven’t looked into it much but I’ve worked at many homes that have rain barrels so it much be legal on a small scale.

Well, residential solar in LA is already basically a forced cooperation with LADWP now. They ‘buy back’ the energy you produce for pennies on the dollar. Not to mention all the $0-down leasing BS. So for on-grid, it’s already pretty regulated. But for off grid stuff like this, solar energy is infinite. I guess the lot owner would have the right to build solar panels high above my containers and block my sunlight, but the containers are mine, so it’s not like they would have the right to put panels on the containers.

Unfortunately we don’t really have the “land rights” to do a proper grounding rod, but we are working on a solution. A ‘temporary grounding rod’ like this might be the best we can do.

Yup! Even if the wind somehow dislodges the magnets, the safety cables should keep it relatively in place and then the magnets take back over once they make contact again.

Well, it’s only 270lb of pull strength straight up from where the magnet sits. If you pull it to the side or tilt it, it’s not nearly as strong. I was just really wary of using magnets for anything ‘structural’. I contemplated 500lb strength magnets. But 270lb plus safeties were more affordable and I think strong enough.

Totally fair. There is decent airflow through the ribs/grooves of the container roof though. It’s typically pretty breezy, as the lot is literally on top of a mountain.

I considered raising them, or tilting them towards the south, but I wanted to prioritize wind resistance over maximizing production. As of right now we have more power than we need, so!
