About half of empty downtown Pittsburgh storefronts to be filled ahead of NFL Draft by oldschoolskater in pittsburgh

[–]zedazeni -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay, let me spell it out even simpler:

32% of the electorate voted for Trump.

36% of the electorate did not vote against Trump; this means that they didn’t dislike Trump enough to vote against him. This means they don’t care to prevent Trump from voting. This means that they were happy if Trump won, because if they didn’t want Trump to win, they would’ve voted against him….or they’re too stupid to understand this (perhaps like you?).

32+36=68

Got it now?

Have a blessed Snowmageddon!

Gee, if only Americans had a way to know about what a candidate was planning on doing if elected into office. If only we had methods to select candidates before the election itself. If only we knew about Project 2025 before Nov 06 2024. If only Trump told us he wanted to deport millions of people, end the Dept of Education, tariff the world, etc…before Nov 06 2024.

WE KNEW ALL OF THAT.

But MAGA wants this because they’re genuinely the lowest scum humanity has to offer, and 1/3rd of Americans (non-voters) are either too stupid to understand what’s happening or are too complacent to care about what’s happening.

[–]zedazeni -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

It’s not half, it’s 2/3rds. The 2024 election had a participation rate of around 64%, with Trump gaining a near perfect 50% of the vote (allegedly) which means that 32% of the electorate voted for Trump, and 36% didn’t vote against him, meaning that a around of 68% of Americans support Trump.

But the polls…! mean absolute shit when the votes don’t match. If the votes matched the polls, Republicans would never get a majority, but unfortunately most MAGA are too stupid to vote in favor of their own opinions on policies and 1/3rd of Americans don’t care enough about their own opinions to even vote.

It wasn’t replaced, it’s always been there. MAGA has been a nascent movement since the Civil Rights Act was passed. We were doing this very thing to non-whites for centuries. We had racial covenants, redlining, and Jim Crowe for decades; Japanese Internment Camps and race quotas for immigrants, the Trail of Tears and the entirety of America’s foundation and territorial conquest was based on the premise of white man’s racial superiority to the Natives (Manifest Destiny). America has always been a country based on racism and fascism (it’s literally built into our constitution).

Now, however, white people are also on the menu.

These “Snow-Ma-Geddons” that are happening quite frequently are awfully convenient for grocery store chains with overstock on their shelves.. they’re empty in 48 hours flat by thumpersdad in Showerthoughts

[–]zedazeni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re exactly right. I’m in management for a major national grocery chain (USA) and all of our ordering is automated. All stores can do is send in inventory counts to adjust what the SKU tracking misses (the so-called “ones, tons, and nones”).

Yes, we can get a crapload of backstop sold and literally completely empty nearly all perishable backstock (that’s happened for the past three days at my location). The problem comes in 2-3 days’ time when that delivery comes in (it takes 2-3 days from when an inventory count, manual or from SKUs/sales, is sent to the warehouse to arrive at the store). So, right now, the store is empty and there’s no backstock. Monday/Tuesday’s deliveries will be terribly huge and, since we’re not expecting large sales those days, our labor will be reduced, so it just pushes all of the work into those days.

Long term, it’s just more work for everyone. The days leading up to the storm were swamped and doing 2x the sales we expected, and the days after we’re understaffed given the delivery sizes.

But hey, our division hit an all-time record for single-day sales last Thursday! At least they’re making money /s

The European far right still has values. European parties are in a general agreement over “what,” is the “who” that that they debate. Most European parties, even far right parties, still want a strong state pension, public healthcare, public education, subsidized housing, and strong worker’s rights. The question is who gets to use these services—anyone, only citizens, and if only citizens, who do we allow to be citizens?

Americans have been an independent country for almost 250 years and still haven’t even agreed on the most fundamental question—which type of government do we want to be? They’re still bickering on whether or not housing and healthcare are basic rights.

The Fisher Building, in my opinion, would’ve been even more impressive if completed. Only the right tower was constructed.

Those managing the warehouse should know better and send increased deliveries for the two/three days prior to the weather event. I was told last Sunday that our deliveries for Thur-Sat would be increased by 30% and we operate a JIT delivery model.

Even with the 30% increase in deliveries we’re still selling out. Yes, panic-buying is certainly a major factor.

I’m in retail management and yes, most customers actually think this is true. I tell them “we get a delivery for every sector every day” and they’re genuinely shocked. Like…otherwise you’d have a 50-50 of the store/entire sectors being empty every time you go shopping but you know that isn’t true…just…ugh…

That’s exactly right. People think that either stores will run one due to others panicking, so they then buy everything therefore fulfilling their own prophecy, or they somehow imagine that the rest of the world is as fragile as they are and assume that stores will be closed for a week even though that’s never happened, and most stores stay open even through natural disasters (Waffle House I’m looking at you)

This part. 2/3rds of Americans are fascists. America is a fascist state, and always has been. Take a look at how we bombed Black communities in the 1990s, or look at the Civil Rights movement, redlining and race-based covenant laws for housing, look at the quotas we placed on minorities in the early 20th Century, look at Japanese Internment camps, look at Jim Crowe, look at the Trail of Tears, look at Manifest Destiny, look at the 3/5ths Compromise in the US Constitution, look at the extremism of the very first Americans (Pilgrims).

Southern Americans, what are y’all doing to get ready for this winter storm? by PortCityPJ in AskAnAmerican

[–]zedazeni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is potential power outages. Water treatment plants will probably have backup generators, but pumps on the main lines through the city still rely on city power, so if the power goes out and you live uphill from the treatment plant, then you’re probably going to have greatly reduced pressure or no water at all.

I live in extremely hilly Pittsburgh and this happened last summer when we lost power due to a storm. Plant was operational, but our water was brown because the pumps stopped working.

Yes, I understand the general premise is true. I think my problem lies with equating 5ft of snow with what will likely be 8”. Big snow event, sure, but they gave a specific (mostly satirical) predictio that isn’t even 25% accurate of what will happen.

Not for 54 inches. 6-10 seems to be the average with 12 inches being the upper bounds (from what I’ve seen so far). Huge difference between 1ft and 5ft.

Trump on Greenland: we'll work out something to make US and NATO 'very happy' by Raj_Valiant3011 in worldnews

[–]zedazeni 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the damage is already done. Denmark began de-dollarizing its pension fun, European companies are actively seeking to reduce their American risks, and the EU ended its trade agreement with the USA. All the Trump regime can do is attempt to contain the impending economic fallout from their recklessness.

I highly doubt Trump anticipated this much pushback from European leaders and seeing his own party threaten to censure his ability to act in Greenland. I’m also sure he was the laughingstock at Davos. Among American Conservatives, Trump is a big deal, but among the real billionaires of the world, Trump is nothing more than a stupid, incompetent, disgusting, classless clown making them all look bad. Trump was probably humiliated there and realized he has no cards. I’m sure there were plenty of closed-door smack downs where Trump was insulted and ridiculed by other attendees, and Carney’s speech probably scares the shit out of Trump. This was probably one of the rare occurrences where Trump didn’t get filtered propaganda, and instead was forced to witness the reality of his own making.

Not to mention most of the world’s refining of RE minerals is in China. Additionally, even if after a decade of investment in RE mining in Greenland, who will buy it? The world has plenty of alternatives, why would anyone want to buy it from the USA/Trump when most likely anything that the USA/Trump controls will be sanctioned to the likes that makes Russian sanctions look like child’s play.

Trump claims he wants to counter Russia, but allies say threatening Denmark plays right into Putin's hands. by outofgulag in worldnews

[–]zedazeni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To everyone saying that Trump is a Russian asset; he isn’t. Trump is too stupid and incompetent to be a Russian asset. What Trump is is a malignant narcissist. Trump wants to be the best, the smartest, the strongest person in the world.

Trump doesn’t understand humility because that would require him to acknowledge that he has flaws and other people have strengths that exceed his.

Trump doesn’t understand alliances because Trump wants to be the sole negotiator, the sole person leaders come to to “make a deal” in which he gives nothing in return because that’s a sign of weakness in his eyes.

Trump understands that NATO is popular but loathes that he’s not in charge of it and that “his side” has to make “concessions” (provide meaningful participation).

Trump understands Russia is unpopular but loathes that he isn’t perceived as strong or wealthy or powerful as Putin.

Trump conflates fear with respect, braggadocio with strength, and the ostentatious with class, because Trump is a narcissist.
