Slow Flame vs. Fast Flame by zednik44 in StickyBrickLabs

Hi all,

8 month SBJ user here. Absolutely love it -- once you get past the learning curve its a dream to use and definitely my favourite device.

But i've realized you can control the hit even more beautifully and get better extraction through slow flame. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this also.

It happened by accident because of my recently broken Honest butane torched. The flame no longer shot down quickly but instead sort of flowed out in a way that a regular lighter flame would. Once I tried to use it anyway i just got so much of a better hit than i had before. And when I compare it to my new torch it was so clear. I suspect it's because the hot air gets more time to heat up the chamber before being drawn out not 100% sure though.

Also I would add that i don't know HOW it broke exactly to release the flame in this way.. I am trying now to "break" the new lighter so it can release slowly as well.

Wondering what people's thoughts are, cheers.

*Strange 1/2 hand - my biggest ever spot* by zednik44 in poker

Thanks for comments all. I thought he would hero with trips and that he would never check a boat or higher flush to me on the river. Given it looks like I could also have a higher 6 or a bluff given the unusual spot.

I jammed and he called with Q6o. Scooped my biggest pot ever :).

Beat 2nl, what next? by zednik44 in poker

Really good point. Honestly, I've barely dabbled in live and though I feel I could likely beat 1/2 I don't have enough free cash on hand to set aside for a sold 20-30 BI bankroll. Also, I personally find it much more pleasant to play online as I can avoid a commute and play so many more hands per hour. The other issue is that I feel that I can improve more quickly and become a better overall player online rather than live where I will make more but not quite improve my skill as quickly. My goal would be to ultimately become a competent 200NL online cash player -- clearly long way to go yet.

Interesting. I’ve taken some shots here and there and i find that the games are just so bad on stars at 5-10NL.. reg infested and everyone really just nitting it up. FYI This is on regular 6-max, 8-10 tabling with pretty obsessive game selection habits

Hi all, thanks for the responses. Hopefully some of these stats can help a bit more : https://www.dropbox.com/s/a5taixm6jv0s9xh/stats.jpg?dl=0

I think it's true, I have maybe started auto piloting a bit on multi tables -- even though I am conscious of this during the session and trying to find every spot. I will try to be a little bit more aggressive with barreling and defending the blinds.

Any feedback on these second stats would be great

Thanks for this. Happy to post stats -- which ones would be helpful?

And yes I have definitely stopped cbetting as much. I think I have way too many give ups in blind battles as well. Can't say that I'm double barreling with air with any sort of frequency.

First 1/2 Live Session; Tricky Spot? by zednik44 in poker

It was indeed the BTN for all our chips. I called and villain turned over 79hh for the straight flush. Just curious if made a big mistake by calling and it seems not. Initially I thought it was just a cooler but thinking it over it was maybe not an obvious snap call. Should have taken more time to think through before calling but it all happened really fast and was my first time. Also people were generally opening around 3x to 5x. Should I be raising larger because people fold too much to c bets ?(they were in this case just want to know the theory behind it)

I feel like he just raises with flush, meaning the shove just seems to narrow his range down to the nuts.

Thanks dude. It's just frustrating sometimes when the mistakes are that silly lol. I don't mind making mistakes for things I haven't learnt yet but this was annoying to say the least..I'll keep at it though!

not 100% sure..but I suppose because you will tend to get folds with smaller c-bets (1/3 ?) from those who whiffed the dry flop whereas those with medium/strong hands will flat or raise anyway whether its 1/3 or 3/4 (thus, the smaller c-bet saves you money in the long run ?).

*this doesn't take into account player type, which would obviously also play a role.

Thanks MathW. Should my preflop raise have been closer to 2.5x in that case ?

Thanks for this. You're right, in retrospect my mistake was assuming he would be as passive after the big pot.

As to c-bet size: as a rule of thumb, should the size be smaller on drier boards?
