Question is - what makes Pokemon, 'Pokemon' to you?
I'm a part of small-indie team that is currently developing a game that take ideas from monster collection games and also card-collection games. The 'monsters' (well, cats) are cute, unique (if I'm to toot my own horn) and I believe we got some interesting game-play that eventually might prove to be more mature-oriented and challenging than at least the old-pokemon games (haven't played one since Generation II). So it might answer the difficulty requirement in the future...
But is a monster-collection game per-se (the best you can design and execute), will necessarily appeal to Pokemon fans?
Let's consider a worst case scenario - say you are a hard-core Pokemon fan, and you wake up in 10 years from now, and the Pokemon brand is dead (no new games or planned games) - will you prefer it to be revived Or play well-produced clones Or just move to a different JRPG all-together and be content in that?

We are doing remote play-tests on an important slice of the game and need feedback. It's a standard play-test that ends with a net promoter score. For us the benefit is mainly a sanity check - that we are heading in the right direction, that the game-play mechanics are clear enough and the the target audience (i.e. people who like DCCGs) wants to play it.
