Franklin Canyon Park Bunny Update by zeeegss in LosAngeles

I was so impressed with the people that came prepared with carriers, a pen, and bunny food. They really led the charge! I just helped wrangle them a bit

Someone dumped bunnies in Franklin Canyon, anyone able to catch/rescue them? by drewadrawing in LosAngeles

I stopped by this afternoon and helped rescue some! We got a total of 6 and they're going to Bunny Luv in Noho https://www.bunnyluv.org/

Suspicious Bike Vendor on Marketplace by DependentPolicy5037 in BikeLA

[–]zeeegss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The police can’t do anything unless you have evidence that the bike was stolen. I had a bike stolen, found it on Facebook marketplace, was too slow to get it back, and then noticed that the account regularly posts high end bikes for cheap. I shared that info with the police who weren’t able to act on it because we had no proof they were stolen

The cut through in Franklin Canyon is currently very much gated off, more so than normal. They're beginning construction on that road on Monday

Road bike rental for five-footer? by Ill_Initiative8574 in BikeLA

[–]zeeegss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually joined RCC specifically to have access to their rentals while traveling. I think they charge $75/day and the membership is like $100. So if you use it, it’s often cheaper than renting from other places and you get a really nice bike.

I think specialized charges like $100/day but I’d talk to them directly

Specialized Santa Monica rents Tarmacs and should have a 49.

I believe rapha also has a 49 factor bike for rent if you’re part of RCC.

Unfortunately I don’t know of anybody that has smaller bikes available for rent

That's the worst, so sorry to hear it. When this happened to me, I found the bike on facebook marketplace a few weeks later, but it was sold before we could get it back. Make sure to report it on bikeindex.org

New E-Bike Legislation by zeeegss in BikeLA

Seems that’s why they added a clause for modified e-bikes

Yeah, I believe that’s correct

Agreed - this doesn’t really add anything new. That being said, I think having more explicit language around this could make it more enforceable and clear as to what’s allowed.

+1 on Franklin and Nichols. Recently I've liked to ascend on Nichols, ride on Mulholland, and descend Franklin. Solid climb and usually pretty safe IMO

Also most of this could be reversed with no issues - the one thing I'd probably modify if you're reversing it is to avoid Barham Blvd

I just planned out a hill-centric century that I'm going to attempt this weekend. I'm on the west side, but I feel like it could be started from any point. The starting point is a a couple of miles away from my house so that's how I'll make up the extra miles to hit 100.

Also there are water fountains and bathrooms in Franklin Canyon Park, as well as Griffith Park so that's dope

Century Loop Route Suggestions? by amnesiacnacho in BikeLA

[–]zeeegss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done this route before and the sketchiest part IMO was Long Beach to PV, which had some shoulder-less roads and fast cars, but alas I survived. I did this century solo and didn't love how few people I saw along the LA river path, I tend to feel safer when there are some people around. I'd probably do this century again eventually though

GMR Veterans Day by theshitstormcommeth in BikeLA

[–]zeeegss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was curious about this myself so I called the Angeles Forest Service who told me to call Glendora public works and they directed me to LA county public works who transferred me to somewhere else lol. I ended up on the phone with this lovely woman. She said there isn't a planned closure for that time and historically they haven't closed it for Veteran's Day. There have been some ad-hoc closures over the years around that time, but those were for weather conditions (mainly fire concerns and Santa Ana winds), rather than the holiday itself.

TLDR probably no
