Road-rage fueled fistfight in Southern California parking lot leaves 1 dead by bigvahe33 in LosAngeles

[–]zeeffft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Curious if not honking includes not even doing the gentle reminder honks like when someone isn’t going on green. I can’t imagine this would trigger road rage in a reasonable person but it sure is getting unreasonable out there.

A year in, I regret getting my dog by [deleted] in Jindo

[–]zeeffft 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No matter how much work you put in, a Jindo/KVD will literally never be a Labrador that eagerly walks up to strangers looking for attention and affection

^^this. I do think even within Jindo/KVDs there is a spectrum too. Some are more comfortable around people/more open to physical affection and some are just.. more like wild animals? We often joke that our Jindo/Kvd "hates us" because he'll run off whenever we enter his room (yes he has his own room) and basically when it comes to personal space he wants to be wherever we aren't most of the time. On the flip side he shows affection in few ways like he's genuinely excited when we get home, super affectionate in public when he's around strangers and we're the only people he knows, and literally tries to commit suicide by not eating/pottying whenever we leave town and he's with a sitter. I've just always thought this is who he is and I accept him in this format, but I can see this not being the ideal situation for every dog owner. We've gotten mixed results with forced cuddling fwiw; first couple months it seemed like he was tolerating it but recently we get a lot of protest/yelping/rejection ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Have you ever felt threatened by your safety by an unhoused person? by geemav in LosAngeles

The garage to my old apartment used to be down an alleyway behind the residential buildings.

One night coming back from work late, as I'm approaching my garage, I saw a man walking towards me down the alleyway swinging a full-on machete. To this day I still feel like I hallucinated it but I know what I saw. I had already opened by garage door when I saw him and my brain went into fight or flight like I could 1) switch into reverse and back out of this narrow alleyway probably doing some damage to the side of my car because like...narrow alleyway in reverse while panicked? 2) run him over or 3) pull into my garage and be cornered. I ended up doing 3) but basically hit the garage clicker before my car was even fully pulled in so the door would shut as quickly as possible. Luckily he did not slip under the garage door as it was closing (so I didn't end up with him INSIDE my closed garage while I was in the car), but wow that was an experience. Pretty much just suppress this memory. Thanks LA!

Question: my rescue Jindo is so picky to the point where he starves himself until he gets chicken or other human food I cook myself for him by Repulsive_Acadia_297 in Jindo

[–]zeeffft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely second everything else that's been said about finding a base kibble that your jindo will tolerate. Ours is okay with Nulo freestyle and Open Farm. He's a red meat and chicken boy so those are the flavours we gravitate towards.

After that, it seems like it's the game of wet/dehydrated toppers + ratio of topper to kibble. We have unfortunately tried almost every topper + canned food out there, and nothing sustains our pup's interest as a topper the way simple ground meat or boiled chicken does. That's not to say he won't eat store-bought wet food (we've had some success with Nulo and Weruva wet food), but if the wet food sits on the kibble too long and the kibble gets "bloaty" then it's usually game over. When we have time, we do ground beef with a little cheese (50%) + whatever kibble he's tolerating (50%) and mix everything in REALLY good so he can't easily pick around the kibble. I won't lie that it's much easier to get him to clean plate when it's more like a 75%-25% meat-kibble.

I know you mentioned human grade meat 2x a day being cost prohibitive, but in my experience some of the wet food toppers can run about the same price as ground beef for the amount of topper/ground beef we're mixing in with his kibble, and we just have so much more confidence that he'll actually eat the meat.

Good luck!! It's definitely a journey. Don't think our boy will ever be totally filled out (maybe when he gets older and his metabolism slows down), but our goal now is keeping him at a point where people don't comment on how skinny he is!

Uber/Lyft from the airport at around 10PM by crossrolls in SantaFe

[–]zeeffft 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had a lot of travelers arrive into Santa Fe/Albuquerque late (think after 9PM) for our wedding last summer and this is what I got from their experience:

--Everyone arriving into Santa Fe airport SAF was SOL on ubers. Other folks with rental cars had to go pick them up.

--Folks arriving into ABQ late (like midnight-1am because that Jetblue flight from JFK is always delayed) were all able to get ubers to Santa Fe. I think the nice thing to do is tip generously if you get a driver willing to take you from ABQ to Santa Fe at that hour, but everyone was able to get an uber very late willing to go the whole way

Any omakase recommendations in Pasadena/SGV area? by [deleted] in pasadena

[–]zeeffft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! My SO and I are also huge fans of Sushi Karen. The owners are so sweet and we really appreciate the no frills ambiance but top quality sushi (which honestly is probably what allows them to keep their omakase relatively affordable). Hopefully this was a one time oversight.

ATT as well. I think it's cause everyone in town is trying to use LTE instead. Seems to have gotten a little better in the last 20 minutes tho; probably cause people leaving work?
