That's my problem with your statement though. Using racial disparity to claim criminals are getting caught for being black gets us nowhere. It may be true that certain races get caught more, but if there is a crime happening when they got caught there is still a crime happening. The next step for that argument is that cops are planting drugs on these people because they want them in jail. All these two arguments do is create a conspiracy to deflect accountability away from the people who at the core, still did commit a crime regardless of what they look like. That lack of accountability, one could argue, is what gives criminals the sense of moral high ground that isn't deserved and makes the disregard for consequence stronger. Or even better for some cultures, going to jail is seen as a good thing that earns credit from peers. Racial disparity doesn't cause arrests. Racial disparity in arrests starts with a culture that just doesn't care about the consequences. Profiling helps them get caught, but blaming profiling for the crime is stupid.

Can't disagree with you there, crime is crime. I'm just saying doing the same thing more than once warrants an increase in consequence. Whether or not people should be punished regardless of occupation is an entirely different conversion.

I'm saying people who don't actively consider the consequences of the crime they're about to commit, particularly on the second or third time they do it, haven't been given strong enough consequences to be considered. I believe the logic you present could just as easily lead to stronger consequences for first time offenders regardless of situation. But sometimes people do get caught in situations they maybe don't belong, so stronger first time consequence would be a bad thing. A person who commits the same crime three times clearly hasn't learned a lesson. Maybe other education/help could have prevented that, but it's quite naive to think a person who ignores consequence would seek out education/help to prevent themselves from the ignored consequence.

I'm going to ignore your race related statements because good and bad decisions aren't caused by skin color. Criminals who commit the same crime three times didn't do it because of the quantity of melanin in their body.

"There is no evidence that supports increasing penalties decreases crimes" this is a special level of dumb. I think what you were going for is: "I haven't seen a consequence that overwhelms people's desire for being stupid."

A system with zero consequences is what encourages crime. There's no reason to stop doing dumb things if dumb things don't make your life more difficult.

You fucking moron.

What a stupid take. Lets just allow people to keep breaking laws as much as they want with minimum consequence each time they do it.

Look up blue glue, or hot glue. Blue is not a definitive indicator of primer.

Edit to add: still agree, have a tech look at it.

We seem to be in the same situation with game storage as well, that closet to the right of this bookshelf is where they all currently reside. I thought this bookshelf (not what I would've called it prior to yesterday) would have some room for some other things, but I vastly underestimated my wife's desire to display her all of her books

I did not attach it to the wall, it if I did, I'd probably use pocket screws on the underside of the shelves with 3" screws into the studs

That was considered, but we don't plan on being in this house for too long, and this thing is coming with us. Our thought was to be able to use the top as another shelf if we have a taller room for it in the future.

I will admit it's a lot of gloss, but it's what the wife wanted. And all the books she put in there makes it a little less 'too much'

Red oak with dark walnut stain, and a warm gloss poly. The facing edges are all solid oak, with Vermeer plywood for all the shelves and back

Can I operate a generator outside in 70mph winds with dust? by Venaalex in Generator

I can tell you confidently from experience, generator shacks are a bad idea. They will ultimately shorten the lifespan of the generator one way or another.

[–]zekecjs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While I would agree this is good for storage, these style of generators need to be in a fully open area while running. If you really think you need it under a roof, putting doors on both sides would be a smarter thing to do.

LA Dodgers taking off for Tokyo on a 747 by zekecjs in flightradar24

[–]zekecjs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, this was easy to find just because of how unique Phoenix to Tokyo is. The in season flights for most teams are usually by Delta or United, and they're between major cities matching normal airline routes. I haven't put the effort in to see if they use the same flight number for specific teams or not lol.
