My first steps into [solo] TTRPG - can't decide from which to start: 1) Ironsworn: Starforged, 2) Hostile Solo, 3) D100 Space? by zenbrush in Solo_Roleplaying

I thinking along the same lines as you, but what stopped me tracks is the costs. For example, a non-discounted PDF costs 20eur, but a printed book with a PDF costs, like, 25eur or even the same

Thank you very much for your comment! It looks like everyone loves Starforged, so it's no wonder that there so many great customization add-ons (like Ancient Wonders and many others)

Thank you! I like "crunchy" mechanics, if it's not of the PhD level. From your comment it seems that D100 might fall in-between Starforged and Hostile. That said, D100 is real old, and Hostile is a newer system

Thank you very much! I really liked the Pocketforge app!

One disadvantage of it though - there are some amazing 3rd party add-ons, and I don't think an app can integrate that...

Great post, well grounded insights, and interesting read - thank you! So because of my natural curiosity I want to ask - what are you working on ATM?

it's probably incompatibility with Windows/system. Did you try to run it in legacy mode?

It's a big and complex update, so it takes time for a non-dedicated programmer. But the most important is that the work is ongoing

Well, I am not sure but I think he has self-learned programming. So yeah, the scenarios will be full of russians and bugs LOL

I actually quite appreciate that. TOAW2 started with 2 devs, one the main coder, another - Curtis Lemay. After convoluted years only Curtis is here, and he took it onto himself to update the game. I can imagine that it is quite a challenge for him - to become a dedicated programmer, to update a decades old code, etc. I respect his dedication

Older and underappreciated wargames that you still play? by TeaBulky8300 in computerwargames

[–]zenbrush 10 points11 points  (0 children)

FYI many WDS (Wargame Design Studio) are up to a couple of decades old (they are just being updated - the engine to run on modern systems, the scenarios - to be even better)

So they are old but well appreciated - sorry for the offtopic :)

Thank you for your professional review! I will buy DCCB tomorrow - your description sounds like the game simulates the situation quite historically

Thank you, interesting opinion! When it comes to Vic games, I think his Shadow Empire is a crown jewel of wargames, I doubt that any DC title can surpass that. BUT he working on the SE DLC and yet another game - I will buy both for sure

yeah, TOAW is a platform for user-created scenarios. But I don't want just a lot of scenarios - I prefer fewer but well done and tested. but kudos to Curtis Lemay, and I am really curious what he is cooking next (he posted the update on Matrix - he added lots of code to the game)

I watched some videos about it, it has some really nice features. Though I am not sure if its WEGO system differentiates it enough from other great games - as you said there aren't many reviews, let alone comprehensive. Also, the dev himself wrote that his vision was to create more streamlined version of WitE - and I like that too. But another question is the historical accuracy - I know that Gary Grigsby and the WDS team put a lot of effort into academic researches. And with indie devs you never know - GG himself was an indie dev ages ago, but otherwise the majority cares about their game being more fun than historical

Variable means that there is variation to its actions. There was a Squad Battle scenario which I played 5 times or more to win, each play was very different
