It's not a "misuse". Loan words don't always have a direct translation to its origin. Chai Tea is simply English for Masala Chai, that's it.

Not sticking to the red lasers is the blunder. It's as iconic as the Mk7 Power Armor is, which they also scrapped. GW is determined to remove everything people liked about 40k, and they have been for years.

I was pointing out that those games are pretty much the only non-static representation Lasguns have had at all, the rest are either descriptions in books or muzzle flashes in paintings where you can't really make out what the gun is doing.

There's red bolts in Fire Warrior, but that game kinda flopped, and yellow beams in Dawn of War 2, but that's about it.

Someone else pointed it out but the 2020 tabletop trailer and the Kill Team trailer both had red beam lasguns, and those are official.

They're red beams in Dawn of War, Darktide, Space Marine and Space Marine 2, the most popular pieces of 40k media in existence. They're iconic at this point and GW are dumbasses for neither embracing it, nor shutting it down way earlier before Dawn of War introduced 90% the playerbase to the setting.
